Today I learned that Vladimir Putin has once again claimed that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people,” this time invoking genetic research. I was surprised (and pleased) to see that journalists responding to this claim cited our 2021 paper, lnkd.in/gVp_rt5i

Harvard Study: AI Peer Reviews of Journal Papers Outperform Top Human Experts?!
(When I was an editor for technical journals, I focused on understandably: often asking authors what their sentences meant. Sometimes, they did not know what their sentences meant. I wonder if AI also focuses on this aspect.)

Vivek Ramaswamy just put a registered sex offender who was sentenced to 8 years in prison for sexual contact with a minor in his new ad.
By taking money from an Epstein associate and shaming me for my childhood, he has already shown his disdain for survivors.
Shameful but not at all surprising from someone like him.

The Republican-controlled board of elections shut down the 1 early voting site at North Carolina A&T University—a historically Black college—so students marched an hour to vote.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE STUDENTS FOR FIGHTING BACK. WE MUST ALL DO THE SAME.

This may be felony criminal theft and conversion of government property for political campaign purposes. 18 U.S.C. § 1641. It is a Hatch Act violation for any government employees who worked on it or used government resources to make it. It is blatantly unethical under numerous federal ethics provisions proscribing the use of government resources for political campaigns.
The White House is currently airing this video as an ad during commercial breaks on Fox News.
It looks and sounds like a political spot and includes a disclaimer stating that it is paid for by the U.S. government.
The soundtrack: as images of Trump flash across the screen, singer @iamjmsn can be heard repeating, “Love me, love me,” over and over.
The video combines Trump’s anti-communist message with rapid cuts of Trump, American flags, and military aircraft, alongside claims about tax cuts, manufacturing, and policing.
It ends with the UFC’s Dana White saying:
“He is the toughest, most resilient person that I’ve ever met, and nothing was going to stop him from fighting so hard for the country he loves.”

1/10 Phylogenetic trees are computationally expensive, combinatorially brittle, and—for molecular clock dating—rather unnecessary.
Introducing ChronAeon: tree-free molecular clock dating in seconds, powered by distance geometry and our HyphAeon transformer foundation model. 🧵

I love this insight:
some rare cancers are strikingly homogeneous with one recurrent driver mutation, which makes them ideal precision medicine targets
Replying to @VivekSubbiah
3/8 Here's why rare cancers outperform: they often exhibit striking molecular homogeneity. BRAF V600E in ~95-100% of hairy cell leukemia. BCR::ABL defining CML. ETV6::NTRK3 in infantile fibrosarcoma. Simple biology = ideal precision medicine targets #PrecisionOncology @Dr_R_Kurzrock wrote about this in 2007 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1743… This paper comments on @EytanRuppin 's paper in @myESMO Rare Cancers esmorarecancers.org/article/…

Until now, inserting a gene size change into the genome only worked in dividing cells. Now, you can write a whole gene into a chosen spot in the genome of a cell that will never divide again (e.g., neurons, etc).
