Asking isn't selfish, it actually makes things easier for both of you. Your partner can't read your mind, and guessing just stresses everyone out. Telling them what you need is basically handing them the cheat code.

The old rules tell you that asking is selfish or that it ruins the spontaneity. You need to consciously rewrite that thought. Your partner cannot read your mind. When you don't ask, you force them to guess. Guessing creates anxiety for them because they worry they aren't pleasing you. Asking is an act of generosity.
