Social media hate & incitement have real world consequences, translating into violence & brutality.
Those doing so often hide behind secretive accounts. By reporting threats of violence & incitement, there’s a greater chance those hiding will be unmasked. Report to @Real411orgza
[SEE SOMETHING ? DO SOMETHING !!] ✊
Social media has seen a significant increase in misinformation and disinformation in the lead-up to 30 June; a date promoted by anti-immigrant groups as a deadline for foreign nationals to leave South Africa.
False information spreads more easily when it confirms existing frustrations, and platforms are reluctant to take these down as they generate traffic and engagement for them.

Misdirected Anger Movement is wasting R600 million in taxpayer money for their vigilante imposed deadline of #30june. Myself and @ElonsTipsyAunty #wontbemarching Here's what we will be doing: continuing with activism to fix access to water and services.

South Africa faces a corruption crisis that impacts service delivery everywhere.
Neither Afrophobic rhetoric nor scapegoating vulnerable populations will solve it.

We reject xenophobia.
Every person deserves dignity, respect and safety, regardless of where they come from. South Africa knows the pain of discrimination and should never turn it on others.
Choose compassion over fear, unity over division, and humanity over hatred.

Statement on Xenophobia in South Africa
“South Africa belongs to all who live in it” — preamble to the South African Constitution
The Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) acknowledges the anger felt by many economically marginalised citizens and join others in raising concerns that real grievances have been weaponised by opportunistic forces, deflecting attention away from demands for state and private sector leadership to tackle effective state delivery and structural economic transformation. The state is not effectively providing the services, as well as the jobs and security that so many in South Africa urgently need. This, however, does not justify any form of violence, xenophobia and Afrophobia.
PARI thus joins those condemning the violence and hate speech directed at foreign nationals in South Africa. We call for a halt to all vigilante attacks, and the protection of all persons within our borders regardless of nationality or legal status. We call for unequivocal condemnation from state leaders of the anti-migrant rhetoric, intimidation, displacement and killings that have targeted African migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Therefore, PARI stands in solidarity with all Africans in the country and calls for a state that is willing and able to implement a democracy that actually does deliver the promised better life for all.

We cannot allow our voices to be silenced and our humanity to be stripped. Because if we stand against Africans on #30June, it's not just their humanity that hangs in the balance. It's ours too.

Fikile Mbalula's messaging on the current anti-immigrant mobilisation may be mixed, but in these clips he doesn't pull any punches, stating
1. While the Zulu king has been responsible Jacob Zuma and the MK Party have been reckless
2. The authority for dealing with immigration belongs to the state. People cannot take the law into their own hands
3. International perceptions that South Africans are xenophobic will result in us paying a high price, economically and politically.
