A very important update for Rights Holders, Clubs, NGB's and IF's.... Meta’s updated commercial terms, due to take effect on 30 October, could allow it to crawl your websites associated with business accounts and use the content to develop and train its products. Meta says the changes consolidate existing terms and that website owners can still manage crawler access. But legal experts quoted in a recent Nieman Lab article warn that the wording may be broader than many organisations realise, with important questions still unresolved. Here are the ways it could affect you: Sports clubs — news, interviews, match reports, historical archives, player profiles, ticketing information, fan content and commercial inventory. Could this material help train AI systems that subsequently answer fans’ questions, shape their choices or compete for the club’s direct relationship with its audience? National Governing Bodies and International Federations — competition rules, technical regulations, event information, rankings, results, athlete biographies and years of specialist knowledge. These organisations create and maintain valuable information ecosystems. Who should be able to use that knowledge, for what purpose, and on what terms? Athletes — personal stories, interviews, training insights, images, biographies and content built around their identity and reputation. As AI-generated answers, summaries and synthetic content become more common, how will athletes retain control over their work, protect their identity and capture the actual value of their own audiences? Sponsors and commercial partners — sponsorship assets, campaign content, activation results and brand associations. If AI systems can learn from publicly accessible material, how might that change the value of exclusive rights, the discoverability of sponsors and the way sponsorship effectiveness is measured? These are just some of the changes coming to the sports industry over the coming months. Get in touch ([email protected]) if you need to discuss how to build your own data moat and drive the correct value for your organisation.

I may have offended a majority of the International Federations in Lausanne but I know it was taken in the right spirit. This week at @SportAccord I spoke with Professor Andy Miah and @bbcdavideades on the subject of technology, data and the AI issues International Federations are facing. There are hard choices that some need to be making and it doesn't benefit anyone to shy away from these. The substance of an International Federation can touch tens of millions of people but the underlying metrics show organisations overly reliant on narrow revenue streams and a sector that has generally failed to collect, build and activate either participant or fan data. So, it is frankly pointless to sit around talking about AI until you have your data in order. However, the opportunity ahead of IF's is significant so now is the time for action and to commit to putting in the building blocks in order to play in the new age. I'm always happy to give my thoughts on how to bring this to light. Thank you Kelly Fairweather, Nathalie Clerc and all at SportAccord for the invitation (and hope I'm allowed back!)

Delighted to announce the launch of Pri0r1ty MENA and our new Dubai office. This move opens up some incredibly interesting opportunities across the Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia and great to see we are already winning new clients and making new friends in the region! londonstockexchange.com/news…

I welcome @aburnhammp 's plans for a new National Centre for Information Defence. Bringing together intelligence agencies, law enforcement and technology companies to detect, attribute and disrupt information attacks, including those enabled by AI and deepfakes, will be an important step in reclaiming democracy in the UK. Procurement for this initiative must be neutral. We can't have lobbying involved here. In conjunction, may I suggest to @DCMS that we should be driving forward a programme of digital literacy across the UK. In a Science magazine study, it showed that in the US, Facebook users over the age of 65 shared nearly seven times as many fake news articles as users aged 18 to 29. I'm sure it is quite similar in the UK. I realise this won't help political parties that are particularly benefiting from this 'silver misinformation gap' but we should be focused as a society on the truth and betterment for all in our communities. The onus is on government to ensure we have a digital environment where people and organisations can have greater confidence in what they see, hear and share. theguardian.com/technology/2…

What a shocking take. I would love to know more from this councillor on why he thinks Show Racism The Red Card is 'politically charged with an agenda'. Stamp out racism. Everywhere. We will be a better, happier and more prosperous society for it.
'You don't want to try and drive racism out of football..?' Robert Jenrick finds out live on air that a Reform-led council have pulled funding for Show Racism The Red Card.

100k new job opportunities for young people! What a fantastic initiative. This won’t solve youth unemployment overnight but it’s a great step forwards. Sometimes all people need is one chance. Let’s give it to them. theguardian.com/society/2026…

Yes I know the squad needs more. But if you’re not excited by a Barcola - Isak - Wirtz link up I can’t help you.

From the outside this looks like the brand giving the talent too much creative license. Of course, you've got to trust the talent would: a) Know their audience and what would resonate better than any ad agency Callaway appointed b) Understand the Callaway brand guidelines @goodgood_golf unfortunately failed on both points. I'm sure both organisations will learn from this. Overall the partnership has been good for golf imo.

I get that lots of LFC fans have PTSD after last season but I do think we are already seeing something different in Iraloa’s team Vs Slot. Yes we conceded the same goal twice to NUFC and yes, we conceded that goal A LOT last season…but I think there are promising signs in the build up and with some tweaks (and signings) I have hopes this can be more than a transition season. I totally get the discussion around Wirtz being a spot that Iraola should solidify with CM - I’m sure this would indeed make it more balanced but LFC are also operating a system without significant options for Wirtz to connect with. Let’s judge after a few months. The signings of Araujo and Jacquet are shrewd. The CB line up has been transformed and, given the Uruguayan can also play RB, I don’t think there will be any additions there. I believe Barcola is most likely done. I think Minteh is a better option than Mbaye and a £5m difference should be achievable.
