Delaware Rep. and Majority Dem Sarah McBride has a theory of change that involves dialogue instead of demonization. After all, as she points out, “You can’t change someone’s mind if you are not in conversation with them.”

I was excited to be in Sussex County last week, connecting with friends and neighbors at the Liberal Ladies Luncheon, door knocking with Delaware’s 20th District State Representative Alonna Berry, and joining the RD-20 meeting in Lewes. It was great to see so many Delawareans fired up and ready to knock on doors, make calls, and get out and vote!

It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Neighbors gathered across our state today to remind this president that America will never have a king — no matter how hard he tries. Thank you to all who rallied today, including the many folks I joined in Wilmington!

Gas prices are out of control across the country, including in Sussex County. I’m focused on lowering costs here at home — not starting more forever wars that drive up prices.

As Trump and Hegseth’s disastrous and illegal war in Iran continues, a recent strike killed five civilians at a wedding in Iran, including two children. This is the latest in a horrifying pattern of civilian casualties resulting from U.S. operations in Iran, including the strike at an elementary school on the first day of the war that killed 120 children. @RepSaraJacobs, @RepJasonCrow, and I led 74 of our colleagues demanding answers from the administration regarding the strike at the wedding and the continued pattern of civilian casualties in the Iran war—including what steps are being taken to prevent further civilian harm.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

In all seriousness, these bot farms are engaging in psychological warfare, fostering division, radicalization, and negative polarization that are cancerous to the body politic in a democratic society. Authoritarianism binds the nation through fear, but democracy binds the nation through faith: in your neighbors’ better angels and your own capacity to tap them. Authoritarians have realized they can erode the faith and functionality of democracy through a mirage of division that stokes real division. This dynamic is often whispered about in the corridors of power throughout the transatlantic alliance. But leaders have been wary to emphasize it for fear of sounding conspiratorial. Fortunately, that is changing. I was glad to see @andyburnham say it clearly to @campbellclaret recently re: Brexit. We shouldn’t shy away from it in the US for fear of Trump mocking it as a “Russian hoax” while he benefits from the bot farms and rewards Putin with more money to fight Ukraine. We must speak clearly on this threat and get a handle on it. Any Big Tech regulation by the US, UK, and EU must grapple with foreign interference through social media.

Republican politicians continue to target the most vulnerable 1% in the hopes that we won’t notice that they are lining the pockets of the wealthiest 1%. But the American people are seeing through it and they are ready for change.

It shouldn’t take a catastrophe for Washington to regulate AI companies. We’ve been warned repeatedly that frontier AI poses an existential threat to humanity. The companies themselves are preparing for it. Congress and the President need to act now.
SCOOP: Top executives at Anthropic, OpenAI and other AI companies are privately gaming out scenarios for a public and political revolt after a catastrophic AI event. axios.com/2026/10/09/ai-comp…
