This November, voters in Virginia, Nevada, Missouri and Idaho will decide on the future of reproductive rights in their state. In deeply red Idaho, a citizen-led initiative faces an uphill battle to restore some abortion rights.
@SarahVarney4 reports on whether the fallout from the overturning of Roe v. Wade and frustration over the current law will be enough to sway even conservative voters.

One abortion provider, concerned that Ken Paxton is creating a blueprint to target providers like her, moved twice to states with strong shield laws.
“It’s very disheartening and scary to think that it’s maybe coming to the U.S. Senate,” she said.

Inside an ICE facility, women talked about the 911 calls that landed them there — from men who had beat them, choked them, threatened deportation.
“I had suffered from domestic violence,” one woman said. “But the one who ended up in trouble was me.”

For years, mifepristone and similar drugs have been used to treat common but often debilitating conditions, including uterine fibroids and endometriosis.
Now researchers are exploring whether these drugs could have other uses in women’s health, including preventing some cancers. But the politics and restrictions surrounding these drugs in the U.S. could affect the research.
@SarahVarney4 has more.
For more than 25 years, mifepristone has been approved for abortion in the United States, and it’s been used safely by more than 7.5 million American women.
But mifepristone and a similar drug have also been proven to treat common conditions like uterine fibroids and endometriosis. As anti-abortion groups lobby the Trump administration to further restrict these drugs, @SarahVarney4 and Rachel Wellford take a look at these treatments.

"Creating news deserts is a net-positive long-term investment b/c without investigative, damning coverage of businesses, hedge funds will make money off their assets."
Democracy dies in darkness.
People ask "But don't the hedge funds want the media to produce the kind of content that makes money?"
I've advised hedge funds on the intersection of business, politics, and journalism and let me tell you, no the hedge funds don't want that.
Creating news deserts is a net-positive long-term investment b/c without investigative, damning coverage of businesses, hedge funds will make money off their assets.
If you are a hedge fund, it's less expensive to just buy a newspaper and starve it than fight a multi-year public relations battle over some of your controversial assets.

At the turn of the 20th century, Egyptian & Tunisian reformists condemned female seclusion.
They provide hugely valuable insights on its causes and consequences.
Reading their books in translation taught me a great deal.
