The public consultation was a sham. Overwhelmingly against, and effectively ignored.

... and 12,000 people signing petitions against the plans, and nearly 400 written objections. @TowerHamletsNow has approved a development that is designed only to maximise the profits of the developers. They paid too much for the site, and the community is being punished for that

This despite the demolition of a Grade-2 listed building, and TH's own tree officer saying the Mulberry tree could easily die, and an 8-storey tower overshadowing the Victoria Park Conservation Area, and many homes losing almost all sunlight, and 27 trees being cut down, and...

The Crest Nicholson boss threatened to retract the last-minute offer of 35% affordable housing if the application was refused. @TowerHamletsNow Council planners duly rolled over and wrote a report in praise of the scheme, claiming it caused 'less-than substantial' harm. This...

Sadly residents do not have influence within the @TowerHamletsNow Council - that privilege is reserved exclusively for developers, evidenced by the letter from the CEO of Crest Nicholson to the Tower Hamlets Planning Director, which secured a recommendation of the scheme. (1/2)

It was not a fair hearing because those in favour of the development (planning officers, supporting consultants, developers, etc) spoke for approx 90 minutes during the session, while those against were given perhaps 15 minutes (incl answering questions). It was very unbalanced.

Your support is very much appreciated. But it's worth noting that 3 councillors on the Strategic Development Committee voted against the development. One more vote and this development could have been rejected - presumably legally. Also, it was not a fair hearing... (1/2)

I'm so disappointed about this - I objected on behalf of the labour cllrs this time round. Ultimately the cttee had to make a legal rather than a political decision using a broken planning framework. But as a local resident I'm really sad to see this outcome

Myself and former Cllr. @AmyLWGibbs also objected. Thanks to Steve, Chris and Tom Ridge for their sterling effort.

The Labour Council in Tower Hamlets has let us down on the London Chest Hospital. @MayorJohnBiggs said in October 2016: 'Nobody wants towering blocks of flats in an area of predominantly Victorian terraces and low-rise estates.' Well that's what the Council has approved (1/3)

... St James's Avenue will soon be in near-continual shadow, and will lose dozens of mature trees. The local residents who believed these words and voted accordingly may feel they are less important than the developers, whose intense lobbying and pressure won the day.

On Thursday evening they voted for an 8-storey block to overshadow the entrance to Victoria Park. In October 2016 @MayorJohnBiggs said: 'The new buildings must be in keeping with the area and should not block out light from neighbouring properties.' But St James's avenue... (2/3)

It does indeed feel that way. None of our residents here are against there being housing. It's the scale of the development that will damage the quality of life in existing homes through overshadowing, and put pressure on local services... and the tree felling is heartbreaking.
