"Very idea that humans might become so voracious as to empty the seas of fish seemed absurd only a few short years ago. Today scientific evidence points to a brutal reality from which there is no escape. In barely a generation, humans have exhausted most prolific creatures on the planet"
We are hosting a FREE screening of David Attenboroughs OCEAN in #Clonakilty on Thurs Oct 16th. Preceded by an intro by Colin Stafford Johnson & followed by Q&A. All welcome #westcork #cork #skibbereen @ClonakiltyPark @clonakilty @westcork #bandon @clondistillery @SouthernStarIRL

"EPA expands fish kill investigation to further sites". Why are non-compliant businesses & repeat offenders allowed to continue to operate when breaches are known? @EPAIreland

Don’t let the EU tear down hard won nature protections
The European Commission is quietly trying to dismantle the laws that safeguard nature
They think we wouldn’t notice or care
But we do
Please take a moment to tell them to keep their #HandsOffNature

While welcoming the measures on helping sprat announced by Govt on Jul 2nd, we have many questions, & we want more done. See a list of queries sent to @COSullivanTD
& his colleagues in government. We continue to work to #SaveOurSprat.

We welcome these measures, they will help, but why no quota on boats <18m, despite them taking 46% of all sprat caught in 2024? The fishery is still open to huge overfishing & is data deficient? This keystone species deserves watertight protection. @timmydooley @MichealMartinTD
Our march, scheduled for Aug 13th in #Clonakilty is postponed while we digest the government measures on sprat from this week. Rest assured, we are not taking a step back, we will continue to campaign actively & aggressively for sprat, with colleagues nationwide. #Cork #westcork
Our response to the govt measures on sprat published Jul 22nd. We welcome the ban/quota on vessels >18m but are disappointed with no regulation on vessels <18m, despite them taking 7800 tonne of sprat in 2024. We need much more! @timmydooley @COSullivanTD

It’s not just west cork that sprat overfishing happens, Donegal bay will be next to see a collapse in stock (and then local marine mammal loss, which will be huge hit on tourism the same as west cork) this humpback was taken this week in Donegal bay, one of 7 in the bay at moment
Great to see our march information posters popping up all over #WestCork & #Cork. Join us on August 13th at 1345 in #Clonakilty & march to #SaveOurSprat.

Thank you @WhitmoreJen. We need politicians to step up & back a moratorium on sprat fishing until science is available. Help us drive that message home at our march in #Clonakilty on August 13th. #cork #westcork @catherinegalway @think_or_swim @corkindo @Grantie79 #Rosscarbery

@timmydooley spoofing in London about MPAs while walking away from legislation on same at home & allowing unregulated, overfishing of sprat around our coasts! You couldn't make it up!

Great clip @COSullivanTD. So, if without Sprat "we wouldn't have a fishing industry", Pair Trawling is "completely unsustainable", and Ireland should be a "leader in Marine Conservation", WHY IS THIS #ECOCIDE STILL HAPPENING on your watch?

Eoghan Daltun @IrishRainforest , rewilding advocate, farmer & author weighs in with his support for the #SaveOurSprat campaign. Eoghan lives on the Beara peninsula where damaging pair trawling takes places each winter.
