UPDATE: Acquisitions & bibliographic services & e-resources abolished. Tasks will presumably be moved to subject librarians, whose roles have been downgraded, and who must now re-apply for their jobs. #SaveSOASLibrary #SupportSOASLibrary
Today, as subject librarians have begun the process of interviewing for their downgraded and de-professionalised jobs, we are grateful for the support & concern of the students that we are all here for #SaveSOASLibrary #SupportSOASLibrary
As the final day of balloting for industrial action approaches on Thursday 9 May, on day 4 of #UnFayre students confessed they were already experiencing the disruptive effects of the OPS restructuring as they prepare for exams in a library without enough workers to staff it.

RESULT SOAS UNISON Strike Ballot: 92.2% of members vote YES for strike action. Turnout 57.8%. A clear message @SOAS against compulsory redundancies. Reflects the anger and upset of members during the shambolic OPS restructure. soas-unison.org.uk/news/indu…

#UnFayre continues into Day 5! On the eve of the final day of staff balloting for industrial action & as Uber drivers struck & shut Down Uber today, students were eager to show their solidarity with struggles against precarity & informalisation-both on campus and in communities

As students learned about attacks on professional services staff as well as teaching staff, like Feyzi Ismail many remarked that the university can’t teach the history of neoliberalism and austerity while also trying to impose it at the same time. Not without our resistance.

Its a reminder that the contest between workers and management at SOAS is also fundamentally about the kind of university we deserve: a humane learning environment or an assembly line.

Its clear that only student-worker solidarity will ever compel SOAS to practice the critical politics it claims to teach.

Strange coincidence: @SOASLibrary has a 24 Hour Library Service from 9th May to 5th June, but shelvers are not replaced, acq services abolished & libr. staff members have been offered voluntary severance or have to re-apply for their jobs @SaveSOASLibrary soas.ac.uk/news/newsitem1402…

One Professional Service = One Proper Shambles. VOTE YES FOR STRIKE ACTION #Strike4SOAS #SaveSOASLibrary #FightTheCuts
Since our E-Resources team will also been disbanded, we're not sure what anyone was thinking to be honest.
That would be great, except our E-Resources team has been abolished :P #SaveSOASLibrary #SupportSOASLibrary
Two shelvers left and unreplaced, existing shelvers put on other tasks, one more on holiday... Our reshelving section is overflowing. We've never seen it like this. What's going to happen when we have no more dedicated shelvers? #SaveSOASLibrary #SupportSOASLibrary
