❌ This won't affect your monthly repayments, which are always 9% (or 6% on Plan 3) of earnings over a threshold.
✅ But it does mean your student debt grows faster and makes it less likely you'll repay in full.

🚨 NEW REPORT 🚨
Our National Student Accommodation Survey 2026 report is out today.
We look at the upcoming Renters' Rights Act, the student housing shortage, the impact of inadequate maintenance funding and more.
And we're calling on the government to take urgent action.
Replying to @nickhillman @BBCr4today
The suggestion from Chris Curtis that it may sometimes be better to take out a private loan was astonishing (not to mention unrealistic and dangerous).
There's a lot we'd like to change about Plan 2 (and 5), but so much of the discussion is so off the mark.
This explains the interest rate THRESHOLDS that have been frozen (£28,470 – £51,245). savethestudent.org/student-f…
The interest RATE is currently 3.2% + up to 3%, based on March 2025's RPI rate. The RPI rate in use will change in Sept 2026 to become March 2026's rate.
This is confirmed by the OBR report: obr.uk/docs/dlm_uploads/OBR_… (page 67)
Historic loan interest rates here: gov.uk/guidance/how-interest…
We've seen this in a few places, but it's INCORRECT. ❌
The interest rate THRESHOLDS have been frozen as a natural knock-on of freezing the repayment threshold.
The interest RATE hasn't been frozen, and hasn't been 7.9% since July 2024.

👇 Our take on yesterday's higher education white paper announcements, and why the increase to tuition fees shouldn't distract from the biggest financial challenge facing students.
🚨 NEW REPORT 🚨
Today we publish the National Student Money Survey 2025 report.
Below-inflation increases to the Maintenance Loan continue to have an impact, as well as a drop in parental contributions.
We're calling on the government to increase funding to end this struggle.
