Our team @CoinbasePltfrm is cooking.
We re-architected the payments flow for USDC on @Base, introducing real-time transaction streaming to optimize our send and receive latency.
- USDC receive latency on Base is down 90% from 20s to ~1s
- USDC send latency on Base is down 50% from 5.5s to ~2s

NodeSmith, Coinbase’s AI-driven system, automates blockchain node upgrades across 60+ blockchains.
Since launch, NodeSmith has:
- Reduced ENG upgrade effort by 30%
- Eliminated missed mandatory upgrades
- Added automated analysis of every upgrade’s code changes
Proud to have contributed to this.
The work is not done. Excited to keep our foot on the pedal with scaling Solana support!
We’ve been hard at work scaling our @Solana infrastructure to be faster, more resilient, and more scalable.
We have upgraded our systems to:
→ Process transactions asynchronously, leading to a 5x improvement in block processing throughput.
→ Leverage bare metal machines for 4x improved RPC performance.
→ Be more resilient via improved failover, liquidity optimizations, and better operational controls.
These improvements enable faster, more reliable sends and receives, reinforcing our commitment to provide industry-leading performance and reliability for our users.
Our work doesn’t stop here. We are continuing to invest in our Solana infrastructure so we can meet demand as Solana scales into the future.

It's been one week since we've launched cbBTC!
Here's another demo - this time covering how to send/deposit cbBTC to Coinbase.
We're reading all of your feedback and you'll hear more from us soon.

It's the one year anniversary since we decided to support Lightning, and 4.5 months since it went live
Time for an update!
Lightning is now responsible for 6.8% of all BTC sends on @Coinbase. For reference, Eth L2s took about a year to reach this level (back in 2023). Onward⚡
Huge unlock for Bitcoin!
cbBTC is onchain.
cbBTC is an ERC20 token that is backed 1:1 by Bitcoin (BTC) held by Coinbase.
This means millions of BTC holders can now securely access DeFi apps on @base and Ethereum ecosystems—with more chains coming soon.

5 years ago, $10 LN sends were scary to me.
Today, @coinbase enables up to $10,000 LN sends, with ease and confidence.
Another step towards making #bitcoin and the Lightning Network more useful every day.
Impressed and proud of how fast the Coinbase team ships! ⚡
⚡️Lightning News!⚡️
@coinbase customers can now send up to $10k instantly via Lightning powered by @lightspark! Thrilled to see the progress as people embrace faster, cheaper transfers worldwide. 🌍

The Lightning Network is a fully open, interoperable, low-cost, payment protocol that settles #bitcoin in real time.
Open protocols promote interoperability and innovation:
TCP/IP — INFORMATION
SMTP/POP — COMMUNICATION
VOIP — AUDIO
LIGHTNING — MONEY
Every second, over 3.4M emails are sent over the open, email network.
On the other hand, only about 6,000 posts are sent over the closed, @X network.
So when you run the math… that means there are over 500 times more emails being sent than posts on X.
Open networks are the way to foster innovation, collaboration, and equal participation for all.
Congrats @coinbase @brian_armstrong @ViktorBunin @SavithaSameer + @lightspark @davidmarcus @ccatalini @JaiMassari @jevering + @lightningdevkit @spiralbtc @moneyball @TheBlueMatt @ConorOkus
@vladtenev @JohannKerbrat, wen Lightning at @RobinhoodApp ? ⚡️ Ping anytime, I and we at @blocks @CashApp are happy to help! :)

This isn't quite right, so let me share some more context in case helpful:
- Commerce uses a new EVM payment protocol.
- You can pay from any self-custody wallet
- We believe paying with crypto is going to primarily happen on Layer 2 in the future and we want to help make that happen.
- The fastest checkout today on Commerce is with any ERC-20 on Layer 2 (Base, Polygon, etc). This includes Ethereum, USDC, wrapped Bitcoin, and thousands of ERC-20 tokens.
- As a fallback, customers can pay with a Coinbase account if they have one. And yes that includes paying with Bitcoin directly if you want (Coinbase to Coinbase transactions happen offchain so we can make this instant and free).
- As I've shared separately, we're in the process of integrating Lightning into Coinbase. Hopefully there are opportunities to make commerce payments with Lightning in the future.
Zooming out - we think paying for stuff online with crypto won't really go mainstream until we get off layer 1, and reduce transaction fees and confirmation times, so we're trying to accelerate the move toward that world. I think the market for people paying for every day items on layer 1 will be pretty small, regardless of what chain (maybe other than Solana).
Hopefully it makes more sense through that lens. It may not be what everyone wants, but this is our current approach that we hope will serve the largest number of customers.
