To be precise, did the likelihood of survival increase or decrease if ...

Key Points Research suggests that for Covid-19 patients in 2020, being placed on an intubated ventilator likely decreased their likelihood of survival, with studies showing higher mortality rates associated with invasive mechanical ventilation during the early pandemic. It seems likely that early intubation practices, often involving high oxygen levels, contributed to worse outcomes due to complications like ventilator-associated pneumonia and lung injury. The evidence leans toward increased ris...

WERE COVID PATIENTS HARMED BY VENTILATORS? YES New research shows mechanical ventilation can cause tiny explosions in the lungs, leading to severe injuries—and millions were put on ventilators during the pandemic. Tulane scientists found that forcing air into collapsing lung sacs may have worsened conditions like ARDS, which already has a high death rate. For all the ventilators used in ICUs, how many lives were saved—and how many were put at risk? Source: SciTechDaily
