This #NCNatureFriday post is out of this world. 🌔
Read the story on NC's two "moon trees" in this @ourstatemag piece. Both sycamores, one is at the @cradle_forestry, the other in the Botanical Gardens of Asheville. ourstate.com/space-seeds-moo… Thanks @ncspacegrant for your tweet!
Have you ever seen a "Moon tree"? 🌳 In 1971, Apollo 14 astronaut Stuart Roosa orbited the Moon in the command module "Kitty Hawk," carrying hundreds of tree seeds in his personal kit. Today, the trees grown from those seeds live in parks, plazas, schools, universities and more!
ALT In front of a bright green sycamore tree with a brown and white trunk, a plaque reads: "Moon Tree (Sycamore) This tree trew from a seed carried around the moon by Apollo 14's Command Module in 1971. The seed was one of many taken aboard Apolo 14 to study the effects of prolonged weightlessness on seed germination and seedling growth. This tree was planted June 8, 1977." The sky is bright blue behind the tree, the grass is green, and a line of evergreens is visible in the distance.

What will the #Artemis I launch plume look like?
We've got a supercomputer simulation of the mega-Moon rocket @NASA_SLS that can give us an idea! It's one of many ways our center has helped prepare for this historic step in our return to the Moon: go.nasa.gov/3pcdHhe
