Frontier buyers signed a $41M CDR offtake with Reverion! Their solid‑oxide fuel cells plug into on‑farm digesters, convert biogas to electricity while capturing carbon from methane + CO₂ The approach could remove hundreds of millions of tons by 2040. frontierclimate.com/writing/…

Hafslund Celsio is building the world's first carbon removal retrofit at a waste-to-energy facility, enabled by a $30M offtake with Frontier buyers. Writ large, this approach could remove 400 million tons of CO2 per year by 2050. frontierclimate.com/writing/…

Hafslund Celsio’s facility processes 350,000 tons of waste annually, incinerating it to produce energy, which generates biogenic and fossil CO₂ emissions. With a new retrofit, Hafslund Celsio estimates that it could capture up to 175,000 tons of biogenic CO2 emissions per year.

This project is a good example of how the private and public sectors can enable carbon removal together: the Norwegian government's Longship program supports CO2 capture and storage, the City of Oslo provides financial investment, and Frontier buyers guarantee revenue.

CO280 retrofits pulp and paper mills with capture units to extract the biogenic CO₂, which is then sent to geologic storage.

CREW adds alkaline minerals to wastewater treatment plants, converting CO₂ into bicarbonate which is then stored in the ocean.

📣Frontier facilitated offtake agreements with CO280 and CREW, two companies integrating carbon removal into existing industrial processes! Both companies offer a model for how startups can partner with large industrial players to scale carbon removal. frontierclimate.com/writing/…

This thread is really insightful. @mikeschmitz is a fount of wisdom when it comes to being intentional about one’s work, to maximize the value of what you create without burning out.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and constantly on the verge of burnout? You're not alone. The culprit? Lack of margin. Here's how to reclaim your sanity and boost your productivity with the power of margin 👇

Bending the DAC cost curve is one of our biggest levers in scaling carbon removal. So we’re very excited about Frontier’s latest $40M offtake with @280earth, a company taking a creative approach to reducing the cost of DAC. More here: frontierclimate.com//writing…

280 Earth is tackling this w/ an approach that: 🔄Reduces energy use w/ a continuous capture system 🔥Can be powered by heat from data centers (or electricity) 🧩Is modular + built from commercially-available parts 🤝Benefits from a strong team + external partnerships

Even cooler (literally)—the system can reduce the amount of cooling water needed by data centers. As AI increases data processing demand, this could be crucial. 280 Earth estimates a 60 MW data center with a 50 ktpa DAC system could save >200k tons of water/year.

Re-upping this from last week. I've looked at a lot of CDR ideas previously at ARPA-E and now at Frontier, and I have to emphasize just how exciting these companies are. It's so heartening to see good, new ideas continue to roll in--bodes well for the overall direction of CDR.
