Matt Rhule said, "No matter who we are or where we are, life is about just waking up every day and trying to get just a little bit better."
Excellence is not the goal, it's the daily standard.
β’ It means compete.
β’ It means commit.

One of the most important lessons I learned during student teaching had nothing to do with standards, lesson plans, or even technology.
It was this:
Take care of the staff.
My mentor would bring treats to the front office, the custodians, and the cafeteria workers. He made sure all of them felt seen and valued.
He understood something most people overlook:
Schools run because of the people who do the work most people don't see.
Still one of the best lessons I ever learned and one I carried through my entire career as a teacher and administrator.

The scoreboard should never influence your character.
βYou lost the game. Doesn't mean you just get to leave. You shake hands. It's what you do. That's sportsmanship,β You lose, you go out there, and it's not fun, but that's part of life,β Kenny Dillingham

A masterclass in sports psych by Ed Eyestone at NCAA XC.
He had a wristband with what each athlete wanted/needed to hear mid-race.
Be intentional on the mental side.
You can boost performance & shift athletes goals/focus mid-race by saying the right thing!
