Today’s Guardian finds it "astonishing" that Russell Brand, convicted of one count of rape and three sexual assaults yesterday, was “embraced as a serious social commentator” when he returned to Britain in 2013. Embraced by whom, sorry? The paper gives its own role in promoting brand Brand one single line, noting he had already written columns for it. Yesterday’s big Guardian piece on TV insiders said "Brand’s case has led to difficult questions for the BBC, Channel 4 and the production companies that worked with him." Hilarious... On an unrelated note Russell Brand's 137 written contributions to the Guardian are still online - 17 of which are after 2013 and which concluded in February 2015. Long after the Andrew Sachs voicemails, the paper ran his opinion on Thatcher the day after she died, ran a GQ awards column over a large chunk of the front page in September 2013, and ran his column blaming Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death on “extremely stupid drug laws.” Not to mention the fawning praise from Owen Jones and the entire Labour establishment, including the now-Prime Minister... Today’s piece also sniffs that critics lavished praise on his memoir, quoting its tale of Brand trailing a classmate 200 miles to Wigan as an early warning sign. That particular book was serialised in the Guardian. In October 2014 the paper put on a ticketed Guardian Live event, with Owen Jones interviewing Brand. It was broadcast live from the Emmanuel Centre. That day Jones penned a piece in the Guardian attacking the “all-too-smug, seen-it-all-before snottiness” aimed at Brand. Two months later George Monbiot named him a hero of 2014, calling him “the best thing that has happened to the left in years”. Alan Rusbridger, the Guardian's editor from 1995 to 2015, claimed in Prospect Magazine in 2023: "I only met him once, when he was writing a popular football column for the Guardian, along with the occasional commentary piece." Funny, seeing as the football column was pre-2010 and there is a photo of them snugly on the sofa together at the Guardian’s morning conference in August 2013...

"Even though I’m no longer niqabi and I was able to take off my niqab, I’m still affected by it because of the way people who choose to remove it are treated. We face an unbelievable amount of rejection and exclusion. Sometimes, when I get into an Uber, the driver says “Astaghfirullah” — which, in our context, can be a clear way of expressing disapproval and belittling someone. I’ve also experienced women who support the niqab deliberately making provocative or uncomfortable gestures towards me. On other occasions, I’ve simply needed a bit of help, such as asking for directions, and people who strongly support the niqab have completely ignored me. It has even affected employment opportunities. In more conservative areas, women can face discrimination when employers find out that they chose to remove the niqab. If the niqab simply weren’t an issue in the first place, removing it would be seen as a normal personal choice rather than something that people feel entitled to judge or punish us for. That’s why I support the #٢٠٣٠_بلا_نقاب campaign — not because I want to dictate what other women should wear, but because I support women having the freedom to remove the niqab without facing rejection, discrimination or hostility. And, honestly, that matters to me personally."

.@antonioguterres You allowed this barking mad lunatic and her friends to bring the United Nations into disrepute, and this shall be marked in the history books as your legacy.
Francesca Albanese: “Israel has always killed children... torture, even rape... raped by dogs trained in European countries. European people are profiting from selling dogs that will rape people.” Irish Sen. Chris Andrews: “Thank you for your ongoing advocacy. It's inspiring.”

Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault. I'm shocked because I was certain he would get away with his crimes. The fact that Brand is a rapist was an open secret on the British comedy circuit. A friend of mine knows one of his victims. One of the things I learned over the last few years is how many people in the entertainment industry are good, decent people and how many are compromised by their own desire for power, money and clicks. Francis and I shared what we knew about Brand with people who were thinking of working with him and many of them immediately recognised we were telling the truth and stopped any association with him. Others, not so much. This is even more true of his former employers like Channel 4 and the BBC. I am not saying everyone at those organisations knew but many people definitely did and they not only didn't say anything, some of them actively protected him. I hope the verdict today brings closure and peace to his victims and serves as a reminder to powerful people who abuse their position to take advantage of others that they won't get away with it forever.

How is this going to help our national productivity? A million wasted opportunities for useful education burned on the alter of virtue signalling. Dangerously out of her depth.
Proud to announce that students in England will be able to study Ukrainian at GCSE. It’s a chance for pupils to explore Ukraine’s rich culture and history and, for the Ukrainian community to remain connected to their heritage. This is another step in our enduring support for Ukraine as part of the 100 Year Partnership 🇺🇦🇬🇧

There were 14 pension millionaires in the Civil Service last year. Right now, the top mandarins build more pension a year than even the Prime Minister, while paying significantly less towards it. A system made by officials, for officials. Reform will reward performance and delivery for the British public, not time served. telegraph.co.uk/money/pensio…

The Chancellor has misled Parliament on borrowing. The Budget shows borrowing is almost £20bn higher than OBR's March forecast, at £133bn, and £65bn higher over next 4 yrs. Labour are bankrupting Britain.

Exactly! When I grew up in Communist China, I was surrounded by completely brainwashed people, including myself. Now in the US, I’m surrounded by people even more brainwashed than the communists I grew up with in China. Communism thrives on a dumbed-down population. And the dumbing down is systematically carried out through schools, the media, and Hollywood!
When I grew up in the USSR, I was surrounded by people who were completely brainwashed. Now, when I live in the US, I’m surrounded by people who are even more brainwashed than communists I grew up with in the USSR. It’s insane.

Minorities who break the law could be treated more leniently under the CPS “race bias” plans. This ideological change will bring yet more two-tier justice. Charging decisions must be based on evidence, not skin colour. We will get rid of all this dangerous nonsense.
