Most early stage consumer brands never seriously plan for athlete partnerships. The assumption is that one athlete would eat a big chunk of the quarterly marketing budget, so it never makes it into the strategy. That assumption is usually wrong, and few companies have anyone in-house positioned to correct it. That's why I've launched Ebbets Athlete Marketing, a consulting firm that helps consumer brands build athlete partnerships. The big talent shops are built for Fortune 500 budgets and max contract players. They aren't usually taking calls from a brand with a four or five figure budget, which leaves a lot of good companies with no real way in. So they either overpay for the wrong athlete, or decide the whole idea isn't for them. I spent years running athlete partnerships and have negotiated hundreds of deals with the agencies that represent the biggest names in sports. I can usually get brands an answer in hours instead of weeks. That experience also teaches you which athletes show up and put in real effort, and how to tell the difference between an athlete looking for a check and one looking for an actual partnership. I'm not an agent, and that matters. Nobody is paying me to place a particular client. Ebbets does three things: 1. Finds the right athlete, usually not the most famous one available. 2. Sources and negotiates the deal. 3. Makes sure you actually use what you paid for, which is where most partnerships quietly fail. The name is a nod to Ebbets Field, which stood a block from where I live in Brooklyn. If you're building something and think an athlete partnership could help you grow it, don't hesitate to reach out.

Honest question: Is there anyone who has given Cadence a try and bounced off it? Anyone who went back to Solidity (voluntarily 😏)? I hear from loads of people who absolutely love it, but there's bound to be selection bias. Anyone had a bad experience? cadence-lang.org

Most languages treat assets like variables. Cadence, via resource-oriented programming, treats them like resources. That’s the breakthrough.
Fundamentally Cadence operates on a new paradigm of programming languages. Cadence’s foundation is from incredible research called resource oriented programming then was created and build by engineers who had written smart contracts that held millions of dollars in value. Solidity while being tremendous breakthrough, heck it enabled smart contracts it suffers from its creators not building smart contracts before since they were first movers. Often first movers are later found to have massive issues as the concepts they enable mature. Cadence is founded on those hard won lessons. Things like “ownership of assets” or security being a primitive beyond “what account sent the txn” are some of the fundamental pieces that make applications using Cadence to do more than their Solidity counterparts. When looking at Rust, it has all of the constraints and risks of Solidity and then some. Rust forces the engineer to encode and decode interactions between smart contracts and storage from bytes. Often sophisticated Rust smart contracts have more code encoding/decoding data that delivering value. A mature programming language should do these things for you. For smart contract development, Cadence is king and everything else is like using punch cards.

Lots of Pokemon & RWA talk on the timeline lately. I’m a big fan of @beezie. I’ve got a collection on there and they have the Claw. Got this Charzard on a $50 Claw pull and instantly swapped it for $120. Plus, I earned keys in @flow_blockchain’s reward program.
