A Sri Lankan migrant who sued the taxpayer for £7million claiming he needed round-the-clock care has been seen go-karting, going to the gym and doing the school run, a High Court judge has said. Vengadeswara Raw Gopalakrishnan has been found to have 'deliberately fabricated' claims that he was housebound after he suffered 'serious and long-term psychiatric injury' while detained in a detention centre between September 2013 and February 2014. He had come to the UK in 2010 before overstaying his visa and unsuccessfully claiming asylum. Gopalakrishnan was granted indefinite leave to remain in 2023. The migrant later sued the Home Office for more than £7million. Why is our legal system so open to be made a fool of by foreign scammers and cheats? dailymail.com/news/article-1…

Last Thursday, Andy Burnham’s used a private jet flight go from London to Manchester to watch an Everton game. In 2023, Rachel Reeves said that Labour would "crack down on Tory ministers’ private jet habit." If an opponent did this, people like Angela Rayner would be furious.

Look at this bomber. Oil men spotted it in the middle of the Sahara in 1958. When a team finally reached it, its machine guns still fired. Its radio still worked. There were no bodies inside. No parachutes either. It had vanished on its very first mission in 1943. So where did the nine men go? This is the story of the Lady Be Good..🧵1/5

7 November 1943. A 248 Squadron Coastal Command de Havilland Mosquito FB XVIII flown by Flying Officer A.J.L. Bonnett RCAF made the first U-boat (U-123) attack using a 6-pounder Molins gun. He fired eight rounds and achieved several hits on the conning tower and hull.

The Royal Navy's most underrated ship of WW2 might be HMS Starling. A small, unglamorous sloop that became one of the deadliest U-boat hunters of the entire war. No big guns. No famous battles. Starling was a Black Swan-class sloop, a modest escort ship built to protect convoys. The kind of ship the public never heard about. But she had a captain who changed the Battle of the Atlantic: Frederic John Walker, known to his men as Johnnie. Before the war, Walker's career was going nowhere. He had specialized in anti-submarine warfare, a field the Royal Navy considered a dead end. Battleships were where promotions came from. Walker was passed over and nearly pushed into retirement. Then the U-boats nearly strangled Britain, and suddenly the man nobody wanted was the man the Navy needed. In 1943, Walker took command of Starling and the 2nd Support Group, a squadron of sloops. Their job wasn't just to escort convoys and drive U-boats away. It was to hunt them. Find them, chase them, and stay on them until they were dead, no matter how long it took. Walker developed a tactic that U-boat crews came to dread. When a U-boat dove deep, the attacking ship's sonar lost contact as it passed overhead, giving the sub a chance to slip away. So Walker used two ships. One stayed back and tracked the U-boat with sonar. It guided the second ship, which crept in slowly and quietly above the sub and dropped depth charges without the U-boat realizing it was there. They called it the "creeping attack." Walker was relentless. He'd hunt a single U-boat for hours. Once, for more than half a day. When his group closed in for the kill, Starling would play "A-Hunting We Will Go" over her loudspeakers. In February 1944, on a single patrol, Walker's group sank six U-boats. When they sailed back into Liverpool, crowds lined the docks, and the head of the Admiralty was there to greet them. Starling herself took part in the destruction of more than a dozen U-boats during the war, making her one of the most successful anti-submarine ships the Allies had. But Walker drove himself as hard as his ships. He barely slept. He stayed on the bridge for days at a time during hunts. In July 1944, just weeks after D-Day, he collapsed. He died of a stroke, worn out by the strain of the war. He was 48. Thousands came to his funeral in Liverpool. His body was carried out to sea aboard a destroyer and buried in the waters he had fought to protect. Starling kept serving long after the war and wasn't scrapped until the 1960s. Everyone remembers Hood, Warspite, and Ark Royal. But the Battle of the Atlantic was won by small ships like Starling, and men like Walker, who refused to let a U-boat get away.

BREAKING: A UK judge has ruled that a Gazan refugee and mother of three must be allowed to bring 18 family members to Britain. Upper Tribunal Judge Gemma Loughran upheld a decision that refusing entry to the extended family would breach the European Convention on Human Rights, citing the woman’s mental health and the right to family life. The relatives approved to come include: - Her parents - A brother, his wife, and their four children - A sister and her four children - Another sister, her husband, and their three children The woman only has space to house her parents. The remaining 16 family members will require taxpayer-funded housing and will be eligible for welfare support.

“They put a pump in the anus of a 12 year old girl to expand it so multiple men could rape her and your country covered that up and then told me Tommy was the bad guy.” Tim Pool pushes back on Piers Morgan demonizing Elon Musk’s defense of Tommy Robinson for exposing the UK police’s grooming gang coverup.

The man holding the award in this photo is David Niven. This was taken in 1959, right after he won an Oscar for his role in "Separate Tables." He'd served as a British infantry officer until 1933, but deserted after being arrested for insolence and disobeying orders getting his guard drunk to distract him before making his escape. He sent a telegram from the ship carrying him to the U.S. to formally announce he was quitting. Once in America, he took on odd jobs, including working the rodeo circuit, before eventually breaking into acting. By the time Britain entered the war in 1939, he was already a rising Hollywood star being handed leading roles. He then walked away from all of it to go back home and fight against the Nazis. He joined an elite marine commando unit (alongside Peter Ustinov) and took part in the D-Day landings in June 1944, as well as the Battle of the Bulge with a special unit called "Phantom." He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel before returning to acting in 1946. He was famous for staying calm and funny no matter the situation. Here's a story that proves it: during the Battle of the Bulge, he was stopped at a checkpoint by an American MP sergeant while riding in a jeep. Since American forces had just discovered German commandos disguised as military police infiltrating their ranks, he had to prove his identity by answering a question he genuinely didn't know. The question was: "Which team won the baseball championship in 1941?" His reported response: "Haven't got the faintest idea, old chap all I know is I was filming in Hollywood with Ginger Rogers back in '39…"

Happy Islamophobia awareness month! ☪️ Meet Shawaz Ditta, from Worcester. He is a Muslim Conservative councillor and son of Worcester mayor. Shawaz Ditta, 31, of Bath Road, Worcester, was a Conservative councillor for Bedwardine ward when he committed the offences a jury later convicted him of. Judge Andrew Lockhart KC sentenced him to nine years for rape (concurrent terms for the assaults) plus a 10-year restraining order. He showed no emotion. Other charges, including controlling and coercive behaviour, were left to lie on file. What he did (2022, as the court accepted): • Threw tongs in a fit of jealousy → struck the woman on the head, cutting her and causing bleeding. • Raped her after she refused sex. She was extremely drunk, had been sick repeatedly, and said: “I could not do anything. I could not get him off. I was feeling ill.” • Heated a knife on a stove and held the blade to her leg → left her scarred. He claimed a “shaving cut”; the jury rejected it. The judge called the heated knife a “highly dangerous weapon” used with significant premeditation. Sentence and court findings: • Nine years for the rape; concurrent sentences for the two assaults. • 10-year restraining order to protect the victim. • No previous convictions (only a 2013 caution for harassment). Defence offered character references and pointed to community work as a councillor and door-supervisor work. • Judge: “a rape bracketed by two offences of violence.” Background: • Elected Conservative in Bedwardine in 2022 (narrow win over Labour). • Son of former Worcester mayor and long-serving Conservative councillor Allah Ditta. • Offences occurred in the same year as his election. Victim impact (as described in court): • Overwhelming effect. • Later suffered a severe panic attack at work that colleagues feared was a heart attack. • Year-long trial delay added to her anxiety; she was also worried about seeing members of his family. The court record is blunt: a man holding local elected office raped a heavily intoxicated woman who had refused sex and used weapons—including a heated knife—in two assaults that left physical scarring. Character references and political status did not prevent conviction or the nine-year sentence.
