Last night Democrats took the Senate, took the House, and won governorships in Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Iowa and Nevada. A pastor became the first Democrat to represent Kansas in the Senate since 1932. A former mayor of Atlanta became the first Black woman ever elected governor in American history. 
 And in my home state, Alabama came within about 66,000 votes of a governorship it hasn't won in three decades. Some folks will spend the next few months telling you those stories are unrelated. They're the same story.
 For two years, Washington made a decision about who money is for. The health care subsidies expired and premiums jumped. Rural hospitals closed. Food stamps got cut the biggest in modern history. Gas went up. Groceries went up. And the biggest tax cut in American history landed on the people at the very top. 
 They promised you checks. The DOGE dividend, the tariff dividend, and in September a $5,000 dividend if Republicans kept Congress. They lied about each one.

Then the war they said would end in a day never ended, and this February they started a new one that's cost $47 billion, cost families an estimated $2,000 more, and sent American service members home in boxes. The Vice President himself blamed that war for last night's loss.
 These issues just won the South. In Georgia, Keisha Lance Bottoms beat Rick Jackson, a billionaire who spent more than $200 million of his own money to beat her. Her whole case was simple: he got rich off your health care, and that is a liability. She won, and she became the first Black woman governor in American history. 

The same kitchen-table argument that fell 66,000 votes short in Alabama won Texas, Georgia and Kansas. And Alabama itself went from 30 points down for Trump to fewer than 4 points in a single race. The map of the South is being redrawn right in front of us. So here's the lesson. Say plainly who got what. Run people who deliver, with records of it. Invest in the South like it's yours, because last night proved it can be.
