Just because - mangrove saplings (Avicenna) happily growing in a nursery waiting to be planted. The first nursery in northern Sierra Leone, maintained by village women.

The potential of seaweed farming to help capture sufficient carbon may not be feasible given the large ocean areas needed to remove between 2.5 and 13 gigatonnes of atmospheric carbon per year to meet climate goals, according to a study in @CommsEarth. go.nature.com/43FAC7b

Replying to @SilvestrumCA
@SilvestrumCA are excited to begin 2 new projects as Principal Investigators with @NASA_Carbon looking at monitoring and inventorying carbon flows to the ocean, horizontally integrated across site and satellite datasets. #bluecarbon. #alkalinity @SeascapeCI @VerraStandards

We’re excited about the opportunities that these sorts of satellite observations open up for data-limited regions 🙌
#OceanOptics: seeing carbon from space & sea 🛰️#Satellites complement monitoring in the water. Optical measurements on #ECOA3 help validate satellite-based sensors for ocean carbon, and better quantify relationships between salinity and #carbon along the east coast.

One of the challenges quantifying seaweed carbon benefits is the lack of standardized methods for measuring parameters. This important paper demonstrations approaches to trace particulate carbon from source to sink.
A long time coming but it's finally out, our new @ESAApplications paper: a first demonstration of how to trace #kelp detritus from source to sink. Let's use it to design #MPAs that better protect kelp #bluecarbon. Next stop: #Orkney. @DrJimClark @DanSmale1 @PlymouthMarine 🌊🙌

All other members of the G7 have already cut emissions below 1990 levels. Meanwhile, Canada is letting Big Oil drag us behind. Fossil fuels are the biggest and fasting growing source of emissions. We can’t grow oil infrastructure while claiming to be climate leaders.

📢New Research finding on Blue Carbon present in the #Seagrass Meadows of the Westen Indian Ocean Region, TANZANIA by our Hub mentors Dr. @lyimo_liberatus and @DrMariamHamisi 🌱Find out more on this research finding here👉 lnkd.in/dxVBrVre 🌱Join Us for Our #Seagrass
It’s amazing what the #bluecarbon Sci Working Group has achieved in last decade. We look forward to evaluating new ecosystems and helping to scale action. Onwards!
Fantastic week in Merida with the BC science working at the Mangrove congress of the Americas. @danfriess @Steve_Crooks @BlueCarbon_BCI @CathLovelock @JenFarmer1 @leahslife @james_kairo

Where are the marine forests biodiversity hotspots around the planet? We found high species richness in the NE Pacific and SE Australia and high endemicity in the Galapagos , Antarctica, South Africa and East Russia. Global Ecology and Biogeography DOI: 10.1111/geb.13450

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who took more campaign cash from the oil and gas industry than any other senator, blew up the Democratic Party’s plan to fight climate change. Here’s a look at how the plan unraveled as the Earth continues to warm. nyti.ms/3IFgTLe
