Exactly. An app whose finish line is a paper book is one I'd happily hand to our 3 year old.

There’s way too much AI hype right now.
So @noamseg and I are launching "Hype(less)," a research project to showcase the most genuine, impactful, and repeatable AI workflows that have created real value for you and your teams in product, design, and engineering.
We’ll showcase the best in a special three-part newsletter series in the coming months.
Here's our ask: If you're a PM, engineer, or designer, please share your most valuable AI workflow here: tally.so/r/dWL6Xd (by 10/23).
By sharing your workflow, you'll help others cut through the AI hype, and share what you've learned with the world.
Here's the form: tally.so/r/dWL6Xd
(Please RT and share with your colleagues so we can collect as many great examples as possible).

Is Alpha School actually disruptive?
Probably not—at least not in the way Clayton Christensen defined the term.
Alpha’s schools are expensive, high-end, and competing directly with elite private schools. That is almost the opposite of a classic disruptive foothold.
But there may be something afoot that at least has disruptive potential underneath the school: Timeback, Alpha’s learning platform.
The last wave of edtech largely failed because schools bolted new technology onto old learning models. Alpha took a different approach. It redesigned the “airframe” around the technology—how time is used, how adults work with students, how motivation is structured, and how progress is monitored.
Now Alpha is increasingly building more of the curriculum itself, which may be a sign that its platform needs tighter integration to keep improving and serve more-demanding contexts.
The real question, then, isn’t whether Alpha’s $65,000 school is disruptive.

It's the instruction, stupid.
(And yes, the school leadership, because you need decent leadership to ensure consistently strong instruction quality, via curriculum selection, teacher retention, strong training for teachers, PLC time going to the right things, etc.
And yes, the school culture. Behavior issues disrupt the learning environment, leading to a lower volume of quality instruction, plus teacher churn.
Sure, these other things matter.
Specifically because they have an impact on instruction.)
"Poverty and segregation seem to matter, but so do instructional quality, school culture, and many other things (including demographic factors not captured by the city’s poverty measure)."

The #1 class for college freshman is remedial reading.
That’s an indictment of what’s happening in this country on education.
We need to wake up to it, own it, and fix it.

💫 👩🚀 GPT-6 Astra is here (and I'm obsessed)
I was able to test this model early and it is so, so good.
But even better - it has made me 100x more *ambitious* about what I can build with AI.
Why?
Browser / computer use means it can use any software to build anything (even games.) Coding broke through some of my hardest problems (data, hardware.) AND best of all, it's delightfully not annoying.
Here's what I cover in my hands-on review:
00:00 GPT-6 Astra overview
03:44 Browser use to manage CRM workflows
09:08 Flora thumbnail generation
13:00 Browser use for QA
15:20 One shotting a product intelligence feature
18:36 Hardware hack: live streaming mini computer
22:23 Building AIM-style codex app
24:24 Barbie Bench and a 3D kids game
29:27 Summary: I love her

Mothers are our very first teachers. 📖
Before teachers or tutors, it was Mom—pointing at pictures, sounding out vowels, and turning pages. Every great reader started with a mother who cared enough to read to them.
Happy Mother’s Day. 🤍

When schools closed in 2020, we didn't want our daughter to fall behind.
