Now that 45 has brought up @KamalaHarris’ #birthcertificate, you might notice something on that 1964 document: her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, is described as “Caucasian.”
Here are 3 things that might tell us, and 1 thing it definitely doesn’t mean.

Speaker Johnson used Congress as a platform for a Christian Nationalist pastor who fueled Jan 6th and preaches hate against Jews, Muslims, LGBTQ+ people, and others.
He’s spitting in the face of church/state separation and complete disregard for America’s diversity.

Proud to be representing our community with @SecularElected at @leagueofcities! We’ve already signed up new members and had awesome conversations about religious freedom & inclusion of secular folks with religious legislators who share our values. Say hi tomorrow at booth 1141!

Another #atheist denied addiction recovery options just won a lawsuit in West VA. Constituents and the grassroots recovery community are telling @GovKathyHochul that this happens in New York too. Urge her to sign the Nonreligious Recovery Options bill! ➡️governor.ny.gov/content/gove…

Today is the first Monday in October, which means #SCOTUS is back in session.
It’s a good time to revisit the @usatodayopinion piece Holly and I wrote about the ways this Court is undermining the separation of church and state: usatoday.com/story/opinion/2…

Good morning and I said what I said!
'If your goal is to blow up the session go for it,' says North Platte Sen. Mike Jacobson, but I'm not sure your constituents want that. 'We are blowing up this session,' answered @NebraskaMegan because of the support for a 'hateful, bigoted' bill banning gender-transitioning care

After debate on my bill w/ @SenatorHarckham to ensure NYers court mandated to attend a substance use treatment program can exercise their right to participate in a nonreligious treatment program, the bill passed! Look fwd to passage in the Senate & @GovKathyHochul’s signature.

6/6 The Mayor blaming homelessness & domestic violence on "lack of faith" scapegoats nonreligious people for society's ills, and reinforces the misconception that you can't be moral without faith. The Mayor owes our community, which make up a quarter of New York City, an apology.
Secular Strategies retweeted
5/6 What "changed" (& Christian nationalists are working to reverse) is allowing public school officials, who represent the state, to lead students in prayer, which is coercive. The Mayor clearly doesn't understand what it's like to be a religious minority in a Christian society.
Secular Strategies retweeted
4/7 The Mayor also said: “When we took prayers out of schools, guns came into schools." Setting aside the fact that prayer obviously will not solve our nation's gun violence crisis, this is a false right-wing narrative. Students can & have always been allowed to pray in schools.

4/6 Worth noting that if the Mayor were a Muslim, said he's a "servant of Allah" and didn't believe in separation of church & state, there would be an uproar. Entangling ANY religion with government, whether it's a majority or minority religion, results in oppression, full stop.
Secular Strategies retweeted
3/6 The Mayor is presenting a false choice. A Christian elected official can be personally against abortion, but not pass laws that codify their religious views into law. That's what we're experiencing across the nation right now—because of the erosion of church-state separation.
Secular Strategies retweeted
2/6 Separation of church & state does NOT mean elected officials are expected to check their beliefs at the door or pretend to be someone they're not. It means they must serve constituents of all faiths & none, and can't use the power of the state to impose their views.

🧵1/6 @ericadamsfornyc's remarks are disturbing, but unfortunately not shocking. Democrats are not immune to #ChristianNationalism. His remarks legitimize the "Christian nation" myth, misrepresent church-state separation, and marginalize the nonreligious. pix11.com/news/local-news/ma…

Why do we do things the way we do them? @sashasagan kicks off Strange Customs with actor, author, & activist @brandonkgood in a conversation about an ancient custom that is a major part of Brandon’s life—but one they couldn’t have participated in just a few years ago
