Quick bio: state school -> consulting -> PE -> self-funded search.
I’m tweeting about the day in the life of a self-funded searcher, borrowing heavily from (read: “stealing”) @SamtLeslie’s format of daily updates.
Looking at services / light mfg businesses in DFW ($0.5-2mm SDE)
Shot in the dark, but does anyone have suggestions on how to get in touch with a human support rep at Meta?
Closed on a business (more to come soon!), but struggling to get access to the Facebook & Instagram accounts because the sellers don’t have access.

Interesting insight from a partner at a large PE focused on LMM transactions:
They are very interested in buying searcher exits.
Why?
-> CEO in place that now has experience and is battle tested
-> Can be a great platform for add-ons with capital + corp dev support.
Unpaid plug: @pipedrive is a bad ass CRM for searchers. I implemented it in December and it’s been amazing for keeping me organized.
I started off with a Salesforce license and it was so painful that I decided a CRM wasn’t necessary for search (lol).
Just needed the right tool.
Self funded search updates:
1. It’s been a while - thought it would make sense to share a quick update
2. I sent 3 LOIs last year, in 6 months of searching
3. I’ve sent 3 LOIs / IOIs so far this year
4. Two of them are already dead; one more on life support
12. I stopped posting daily updates because I noticed a prospect following me, and I have evaluated a couple deals with folks I met here
13. Just didn’t feel right to share specifics when at least a couple of folks knew exactly what I was talking about

Spicy responses from business owners today:
“Your background is too generic for this business”
“I’m certain you don’t have enough money to buy us”
I love it. So much more fun than “no thanks”

It is a good thing that "searching" takes a while.
It forces you to really know your answer to three questions.

Who has advice for the first few days/ weeks post acquisition? Anything you wish the seller did/ didn’t do? What did you say when you were introduced to the team?

A searcher (half) year-in-review. Here is how I spent my first few months of searching.

Wanted to introduce myself:
- Part of a small team building a portfolio of $1-5M EBITDA SMBs
- We have a buy and hold strategy and are at 50+ acquisitions so far
- Industry generalists with a focus on commercial services & manufacturing
What can you expect from following me?
Self-funded search updates - 12/14
1. I’ve sold zero domain names in the last 11 months
2. I’ve sold two domain names in the past two days
3. The economy is healed
4. No major search updates - several seller calls today but things are starting to slow down
Self-funded search updates - 12/13
1. Lacking on updates lately
2. I’ve been spending a ton of time prepping outreach for 2023
3. Also spending a ton of time getting my systems back in order
4. I started my search with a Salesforce license - huge mistake
9. I am switching to Pipedrive
10. So far so good
11. But it’s a ton of work to go back through all of my emails to log deals, notes, etc.
12. Considering trying to outsource it to a VA — but l have some time to spend on it
13. Search “housekeeping” isn’t sexy but it’s needed
