What does respectful dialogue look like in a polarized world?
Graduate students from the @uOttawa joined senators @SenatorSalma, @SenBoehm, @BaltejSDhillon and Kim Pate in the Senate Chamber for a discussion on political polarization and the role of democratic institutions, such as the Senate, in fostering social cohesion.
The conversation explored how respectful dialogue can help bridge differences and strengthen democracy.

The Hon. Todd Lewis was a deeply cherished member of @SenateCA.
His unexpected passing is an immense shock to anyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.
We heartbroken at his loss.
Please keep his family & loved ones in your thoughts, hearts, and prayers.
Having been through this twice with our own autistic/neurodivergent son in both Ottawa & while on posting in Washington DC — he was found on both occasions — I can only underscore the importance of a nation-wide response framework, training & equal treatment.
Parker Wells’s tragic death has exposed a critical gap in Canada’s emergency alert system. We saw it with Draven Graham’s disappearance in Ontario last year.
I join @PierrePoilievre and @MikeLake in calling for a Canada-wide framework to ensure police can issue immediate public alerts when autistic, non-speaking, or otherwise vulnerable children go missing; even without evidence of abduction.
When a vulnerable child is missing, the danger exists from the very first moment. Every minute matters.
