Three busy days in SLO County! It was great to see local projects firsthand and hear how the state can help. Thanks to everyone who took the time to meet with me and share what they’re working on. A few highlights from the first two days of my visit.

What’s on the ballot this November? I joined Rachel Goodman on @KSQDFM’s Talk of the Bay to discuss ballot measures, propositions and the issues shaping the Central Coast and California. We covered a lot in 30 minutes! 🎧 Listen: ksqd.org/john-laird-on-the-m…

After decades working on natural resources issues in CA, I enjoyed sitting down with Chuck Bonham and @nature_org to talk about where we’ve been--and where we go from here. Thanks to the TNC staff gathered from across the state for the work you do every day to protect our state.

Protected places like Big Basin don’t happen by accident. For over three decades, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo fought to protect the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was special to join @SempervirensFnd to dedicate an old-growth redwood in her honor—a fitting tribute to an incredible legacy.

Getting 17 bills across the finish line takes a lot of work & a lot of people working together. I’m grateful to @CAgovernor, my colleagues, our staff & the many people who came to the table to help us find solutions to real problems facing Californians. sd17.senate.ca.gov/news/lair…

Proud to join @SenJoshBecker & regional leaders today to celebrate SB 949 becoming law. This bill gives the Santa Cruz Mountains the focus they deserve. It will help us invest in fuel reduction, protect species and habitat, and acquire land to preserve these special places.

My SB 1288 is now law, creating a clearer process to make sure those gifts actually reach the people and organizations they were intended to support. sd17.senate.ca.gov/news/new-…
✅ SB 1288 is law and will ensure Californians’ legacy gifts reach the nonprofits and people they choose – without unnecessary red tape. We are proud to celebrate this win with @SenJohnLaird and co-sponsors @ValleyHumaneSoc & @sdhumane!

HIV prevention works best when people can access it. This new law makes it easier for community clinics and smaller health care providers to offer long-acting injectable PrEP, helping more Californians access this important HIV prevention tool.
SIGNED! Gov. @GavinNewsom has signed #SB1023, co-sponsored by @ICRicardoLara and authored by @SenJohnLaird, expanding access to life-saving HIV prevention medication. “Every Californian should have access to the preventative medication they need to protect themselves from HIV.”

Got to tour Teen Kitchen Project’s new kitchen in Soquel before it’s scheduled opening next month. The new space will allow TKP to nearly triple its annual meal production & double its clients served. Glad to see the progress firsthand & excited to see what’s ahead.

A few more bills are officially on the books! From keeping important aging & disability services running, to a common-sense fix for businesses with older gift cards — & yes, making September 25 Dolly Parton Day in California. Different issues, but all good reasons to celebrate.

More than 25 years in the making. Wild Cherry Canyon is moving toward permanent protection, preserving more than 2,000 acres along the San Luis Obispo County coast. A lot of people never gave up on this. It’s great to see it finally happening.

Proud to serve alongside Pro Tem @MoniqueLimonCA and on her leadership team. She listens, brings people together, and gets things done. Great piece from @CalMatters on her leadership in the Senate.
Unlike her predecessor, who was known as a micromanager, Sen. Monique Limón's egalitarian, “govern by consensus” approach has kept her caucus in lockstep. cal.news/4xTHtJn 📸 Miguel Gutierrez Jr.

Got a firsthand look at the progress on Costa Vista. When it opens at @CabrilloCollege it will provide 600+ affordable beds for Cabrillo and @ucsc students. I was proud to help get this project across the finish line, and it’s great to see it becoming a reality.
