In 1999, #TDOR was founded to memorialize the murder of a transgender woman. In 2023, we’ve lost 26* TGI siblings our nation. This TDOR, let us remember and honor the lives of those taken from us and affirm our commitment to standing against hate. #TransLivesMatter 🏳️⚧️
Rosalynn Carter had a vision for mental health care well beyond her time and one we are still striving for. Her focus on reducing stigma and providing dignity to those struggling with their MH is only a piece of her splendid legacy. May she rest in peace. npr.org/2023/11/19/101982547…

California is working to ensure those with serious behavioral health issues get the care they need.
With a modernized Mental Health Services Act & new behavioral health beds & treatment slots, we're making good on promises made decades ago – with accountability for real results.

People with serious behavioral health issues deserve treatment, not tents.
Now, thanks to @SenSusanEggman, @ASM_Irwin, & countless others, Californians will have the opportunity in March 2024 to vote to transform our mental health system for the first time in decades.

This afternoon the California Right to Repair Act (#SB244) was signed into law. I often hear folks ask when they hear "right to repair," "don't we already have the ability to fix our stuff?" And the answer is that it really depends! pirg.org/california/media-ce…
Consumer products and appliances just don't seem to be made to the same quality as they used to and while we can't necessarily mandate that, we are going to make sure that there is access to the stuff you need to fix your products if something goes wrong.
This has been a six year effort to bring this law to California, and I'm grateful @cawrecycles, @iFixit, and @CALPIRG have been with us along the way!

The failure to provide timely and necessary treatment to those with serious mental illness and severe substance use disorder has led to mass incarceration of those with behavioral health issues, languishing in emergency rooms, and deaths on the streets.

California is overhauling our mental health system. We are working to ensure no one falls through the cracks and people get the help they need.
Thanks to @SenSusanEggman and countless others, we’re modernizing CA’s conservatorship laws for the first time in more than 50 years.
