This short-term funding bill blocks a corrupt policy that would allow Trump to hold even more federal grants hostage—and it closes House Republicans' loophole to pull funding for other agencies to give to Border Patrol. My full statement.⬇️ appropriations.senate.gov/ne…

Durbin: It's my understanding that this whole supplemental funding request is $87.6 billion. We are told the department of defense still has 75 billion in unobligated funding from last year's reconciliation package. Is that true? Hegseth: Roughly. Durbin: What's going to happen to that 75 billion? Hegseth: There's plans and designs on that—the rebuild of our military… Move away from all the woke priorities of of what the Biden administration was pursuing

Ossoff: On day 14 of this conflict, you stated that Iran's military had been, “destroyed and, quote, made combat ineffective.” Was that an accurate statement? Hegseth: Iran's ability to challenge the United States of America, at the level at which we're capable of— Ossoff: That’s not what I asked you. Will you answer the question?

Trump says we cannot afford health care We cannot afford childcare We cannot afford housing but somehow, we can always afford another war The American people want to see a end to this war, not $70 billion of their tax dollars sent to keep it going. -@SenateApprops @PattyMurray

Here we are FIVE MONTHS later since Trump started his war with Iran. Trump has told us FORTY times that a deal is close and the war is nearly over. But now he's asking for $70 billion more—just trust him, it'll work out fine. NO WAY.

I will NOT support rubberstamping Trump's request to bankroll his war with Iran and whatever other misadventures he wants to get us into next. The American people want to see a quick end to this war, not $70 billion of their tax dollars sent to keep it going.

How many people must die & how high must prices go before Trump & his admin see this is a senseless war?  Tomorrow, Hegseth will have to answer for this mess. And I'm working to bring up my war powers resolution this week to put every Senator on record. End it now.

Speaker Johnson extended the DHS shutdown for over a MONTH for no reason at all. This is the same bill the Senate passed five weeks ago. An inexcusable failure by House Republicans. But it’s a very good thing the TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, & more will finally be funded.

On April 1st, Speaker Johnson vowed to fund DHS "in the coming days." Must have been an April Fools’ joke because INSTEAD, Johnson has extended the shutdown for FOUR WEEKS and counting. So if Speaker Johnson is looking for someone to blame for the shutdown, get him a mirror.

REMINDER: The Senate unanimously passed a bill to fund DHS 31 days ago. We passed it unanimously AGAIN 25 days ago. But instead of ending the DHS shutdown and funding agencies like TSA & the Secret Service, Speaker Johnson has dragged his feet & failed to put it up for a vote.

Karoline is right. The defunding of DHS is a scandal. The Senate UNANIMOUSLY passed a bill to fund Secret Service & TSA, but MAGA House Republicans have held it up for a month to secure more money for mass deportations. If this Admin is serious about DHS, it needs to get its own house in order.
"Make no mistake, this defunding of DHS should be a national scandal," @PressSec says at briefing after shooting outside WHCA dinner. "This is a national emergency, and every member of Congress needs to put their country over party and get the Department of Homeland Security funded."

The President spent more on bombs in ONE WEEK of his war with Iran than we spend in an entire YEAR to help parents afford child care. Trump & RFK Jr. are asking to spend $500B more for war—but they won't increase funding for child care by a cent.
PATTY MURRAY: What happened to childcare in this budget? RFK Jr: Ok, let's talk about childcare then instead of the war MURRAY: Just so it's clear, the president is requesting $1.5t in defense which cuts our non-defense incredibly RFK Jr: It's not my department

Murray: "We should be sending money to our schools, not buying more missiles that Trump can fire on schools in Iran. We should be building bridges here in America, not destroying them in Iran. This budget would rob our families and burden our grandkids with mountains of new debt, and for what? So Trump has more bombs he can threaten to end civilizations with?"

Trump's Budget Director Russ Vought just REFUSED to tell me how much of YOUR taxpayer dollars Trump has already spent on his war of choice with Iran. That's outrageous. It's literally his job to know, and the American people deserve answers!
