Kobayashi received a text a few days ago after announcing his departure from Columbia to help open a restaurant in Oakland.“You’re the most Columbia, South Carolina guy I know." postandcourier.com/free-time…

One of the oldest restaurants in Columbia is a sushi bar. Come watch me talk about how wild that is to me.
Please join us over zoom Monday evening 5/24 for a "nourishing" panel conversation about ethnic and cultural gathering spaces in Columbia during this Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

I haven't seen this anywhere else, but this loss will be felt by any who have been within the range of this man's kindness.
Dang. Lived next door (Senate Plaza) my senior year 1991. Felt good when I went from “friend” to “chief”. An icon around Five Points and beyond. Never once ate there when he wasn’t at the cash register. RIP “my friend” @AndysDeli_5pts

“We just found ourselves continually using up whatever resources we had and every kind of option we had to kind of stay intact as a business. And we got to the point where we didn’t really have other options.” bit.ly/37vivp0

Shige is always worth listening to. “A lot more people are cooking now, & it will elevate our understanding of good food and eating around a table. The next generation of restaurants are going to have to be quite special to keep diners coming back.” thestate.com/entertainment/l…

Happy #PiDay! Pi is commonly defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Can you spot all the circles in this Osamu Kobayashi painting?

Did you know that besides one family vacation to Japan in the early 90s, Chef Kobayashi has been behind the sushi bar at Camon every single day we've been open since 1985?

Shoutout to the diners at Camon who called our quiet dining room the "sushi church."
For two hours every week, usually on Sundays, I'll try and respond to anyone who ats me. Food questions to @ServerShige , religion and politics questions to @shigeharu . Ats me something good.
I talk with @preachjacobs about difficult race stuff like always feeling foreign even in Japan, and delicious food stuff, like secret menu items at ethnic restaurants.
Latest episode of #TheNegroLeague I chop it up with the homie @shigeharu itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/…
This morning I had the fun privilege of giving a talk to a great audience of supervisors at @scdhec . Afterwards they gave me some tulips, herbs, and a piece of pound cake, along with a very nice card!
