Mostly PC Engine and PC-FX reverse-engineering and development. I also contribute to MiSTer FPGA cores and a Mednafen fork. (hobby)

I just saw this article, with the clearest picture of an in-development PC-FX ODE. (Note: article is in French) gamsha.com/decouverte-un-ode…

OK, in a few days, PC Engine is going to celebrate its 39th anniversary of release. Is anybody planning a big celebration next year for its 40th ?

This is a pretty good way of looking at how AI can be/is being applied to many pursuits.
"We recognize the power of new technologies for mathematical reasoning and appreciate what they can contribute to the subject we know and love. We are generally optimistic about the role AI can play, but we are deeply concerned by some recent calls to formalize everything as quickly as possible. If done well, a large-scale, coordinated formalization effort could enormously expand mathematical exploration and discovery. Done poorly, it will be, at best, a waste of resources; more likely, it will do lasting damage." For October, here's a video on Dead of the Brain 2! Now I've covered all three games in FairyTale's "Nightmare Collection"! youtu.be/XKj2U3gOa3E #pc98 #deadofthebrain

Fortress of Narzod on the Vectrex Mini! One of the built-in games. 🕹️ (Footage captured on a prototype. Not the final version.)

One of the lesser-known gaming systems from the 90s—the NEC PC-FX. I think it's pretty interesting! 🤓

Oh, it looks like Crowdsupply put up the videos from the 2026 Teardown event. I'm looking forward to viewing a few of these ! youtube.com/@crowd_supply/vi…

joho-todai.com/ai-observes-w…

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll still come. PS1 plug and play ODE on it's way.

By the way, there are some really interesting things happening in PC-FX land. There should be a series of announcements coming soon.

Another fun fact that I learned today about the PC-FX CD+G player - there are actually two separate renderers. To switch between them: While playing a CD+G, move the cursor to the "C" in "PC-FX" in the top left corner, and press the "III" button. It will take a moment to redraw.

I've seen different reports about whether the PC-FX supports the very rare CD+EG discs. Official documentation claimed at one point that they were supported, and at least one online reference agrees. But I saw another online reference to a recent CD+EG disc that it is not.

The answer is that they are probably both right. While the discs play, and in some areas display the full 256 colours, other areas seem to be covered with pixels of improper palettes.

This seems to be a bug in either the decoder or palette management of the CD+EG player on PC-FX.

This is easily the most complex board I’ve ever made. Trion T120 FPGA connected to 112 buffer IO lines. I attach (much cheaper) daughter boards to it and use the FPGA to explore and measure their behavior. NEC V35 in the hot seat this week.

I see discussion among Japanese retro people I follow, about using things like a Raspberry Pi as a Famicom cartridge. Somebody even said something like, "It's against regulations" (not sure what regulations). For me, it's about enjoyment - so whatever goes to a certain degree...

Also, I feel that art itself is the attempt to convey more information than appears possible via a limited medium. A landscape with paint and brushstrokes. A conceptual image via haiku. Animation via pixels. The limitations of the medium are part of its charm.
