But I don't want to be the guy in 20 years making the same money I am now, but with a bad back and a worse attitude.
But being part of a secret siblinghood of capable people who are wise in the ways of museum work is pretty awesome.
Sysiphus, pushing a boulder up a hill, getting crushed by it as it rolls back down, and then starting over.
You're good at building things, but how do you translate that into a career?
No unions, or if you have a union it may not help.
But then what? You'd make more money in other trades. There's nowhere to go.
You're thorough, attentive, fast, agile, meticulous.
But that baseboard is important.
Being a preparator feels like a trap. You love it, hate it, get good at it, and all an outsider sees is somebody touching up the baseboard.
Tfw you're working on an outrageously expensive exhibition component & you & everyone else who sees it knows it's a giant turd.
We have to ask X department before we can do that. #MuseumSwearJar

We need to renovate the prep shop to have room for the #museumswearjar
Some of us might eventually get raises but we will all definitely get cuts to our benefits starting now. #pieintheskywhenyoudie
