Ronald Lauder, the President of the World Jewish Congress and one of the biggest donors in the world of Jewish advocacy, Holocaust remembrance, and pro-Israel causes, is in Qatar, and was present in the receiving line to greet President Trump and the Emir.
Lauder, a billionaire and the son of the late Estée Lauder, is also a longtime champion of Jewish identity and security.
He has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to Jewish schools, synagogues, and cultural institutions, particularly in Eastern Europe, and played a key role in reviving Jewish life in former Communist countries.
To call him a Zionist feels like an understatement.
He is also a leading benefactor of Holocaust education, having underwritten the reconstruction and maintenance of Auschwitz and supported many initiatives to combat antisemitism globally.
Lauder is also a major GOP donor and one of the most prominent art collectors in the world.

It is with great sadness that I join people around the world in mourning the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a true moral leader, a man of deep faith and humanity, and a steadfast friend to the Jewish people. From his early years in Argentina to his papacy, Pope Francis was deeply committed to fostering interfaith dialogue and ensuring that the memory of the Holocaust remained a guiding lesson for future generations.
Under his leadership, the relationship between the Holy See and the World Jewish Congress flourished, culminating in the establishment of a WJC office on Via della Conciliazione, just steps from St. Peter’s Basilica—a testament to our shared commitment to dialogue, understanding and mutual respect.
In November 2022, our Executive Committee had the honor of convening in Vatican City. There, we held a private audience with Pope Francis where we launched the historic ‘Kishreinu’ (Our Bond) initiative, marking a new chapter in Catholic-Jewish relations and reinforcing the common future of our two peoples.
I first had the privilege of meeting Pope Francis in 2008 in Buenos Aires, when he was still archbishop. He attended numerous interfaith events co-organized by the World Jewish Congress and our regional affiliate, the Latin American Jewish Congress.
While there were moments of difficulty, particularly in recent months, I remain deeply appreciative of his warmth, humility and unwavering dedication to meaningful engagement between faith communities.
On behalf of the World Jewish Congress and the more than 100 Jewish communities around the globe, I extend my deepest condolences to all those who were touched by his remarkable spirit. May his memory be a blessing and an inspiration to us all.

שאלת גלי – ומסמך לוין.
בדיקת עובדות ל״תיק גלי״.
יש שאלה אחת שמעולם לא הצלחתי למצוא לה תשובה לגבי גלי בהרב מיארה: למה היא כל כך מעצבנת אותם? מה בעצם היא עושה שמוציא אותם מדעתם, כולם ביחד וכל אחד לחוד? מה בדיוק היא לא נותנת להם לעשות? הרי בכל הדברים המהותיים, הגדולים, היא לא התערבה. בטח לא בענייני בטחון. הסוד לא כל כך סודי לגבי גלי, הוא שמדובר באשת ימין מובהקת, הרבה יותר מרוב השרים שהולכים לה על הראש. לאורך כל השנה וחצי האחרונות זה היה בולט.
הם רצו לכתוש את עזה – היא לא הפריעה. רצו לפלוש ללבנון – לא אמרה מילה. הורסים בתי מחבלים – אין בעיה. נכנסו למחנות הפליטים באיו"ש – לכו על זה. הפסיקו את המעצרים המינהליים ליהודים והשאירו רק לערבים – התעלמה. לא עשו עסקת חטופים – קיבלה. כן עשו עסקת חטופים – גם כן קיבלה.
אז מה הבעיה? השבוע היתה תחושה שנקבל תשובה. יריב לוין הגיש לשרי הממשלה את "תיק גלי". קובץ עבה של מסמכים שמוכיחים, לטענתו, "שאי אפשר לעבוד איתה". עשיתי את מה שהם כנראה לא יעשו: התיישבתי לקרוא את התיק. מה אגיד לכם, נער הייתי וגם זקנתי, קובץ מקושקש כל כך, מוזר כל כך, לא ראיתי מעודי. זה נראה כאילו הם פשוט דחפו לשם כל מסמך שהיה להם במשרד, העיקר שזה יראה כאילו יש להם המון ראיות מרשיעות.
זה עוד מתחיל סביר.
מסמך 21 למשל, הוא חוות דעת של היועצת לפיה "חוק המתנות" הוא בעייתי כי למרבה ההפתעה כדאי שנבחרי ציבור לא יקבלו מתנות מכל מני עשירים.
מסמך 28 אומר שיש בעיה עם "חוק החסינות" כי עדיף שחברי כנסת לא יחוקקו חוקים לגבי עצמם.
ואז זה מתחיל להדרדר.
הדבר העיקרי שנותן ל"תיק גלי" את הנפח הגדול, הוא אינספור מכתבי תלונה של שלמה קרעי, שרובם לא קשורים לכלום. אלה אפילו לא טענות משפטיות, רק הודעות לעתונות שהוא שלח גם ליועצת. כך למשל הוא מתבכיין שהיועצת לא נתנה לו לשלול תקציבי פרסום מעתון "הארץ". אתה קורא את זה וברגע הראשון מבין למה לאוזן הימנית זה נשמע הגיוני, עד שאתה מגיע לפסקה השלישית ומתברר שהיועצת לא אסרה עליו את זה, רק אמרה לו שהוא צריך להביא גם חוות דעת ממשרד ראש הממשלה. לוין כמובן לא מציין את העובדה שחוות הדעת הובאה, וההחלטה לשלול את תקציבי הפרסום עברה בממשלה. כי למה להרוס תלונה עם העובדות.
יש גם תלונה של יואב קיש על כך שהיועצת המשפטית לממשלה לא נותנת לו להעביר תקציבים לחינוך החרדי בלי קריטריונים, רק בגלל שלמרבה ההפתעה לא נהוג בישראל להעביר תקציבים בלי קריטריונים.
במסמך 61 יש תלונה דומה של שר העבודה יואב בן צור על כך שלא נותנים לו להעביר לחרדים דמי השתתפות במעונות יום בלי קריטריונים. כן, מאותה סיבה.
יש הצהרה שאומרת שזה ממש לא בסדר אפילו לחשוב על האפשרות שראש הממשלה ייצא לנבצרות. היא מתעלמת מהעובדה שלא זו בלבד שהיועמ"שית מעולם לא הציעה את זה, היא זו שאמרה לבית המשפט העליון שהיא מתנגדת בתוקף לכל העתירות שדרשו את נבצרות נתניהו. אז למה זה שם? כי יריב רצה לשים את המילה "נבצרות" ליד שמה של היועצת.
רגע, זה הופך ליותר מוזר.
נספח 78 הוא מכתב של מזכיר הממשלה יוסי פוקס, שמתלונן על הדלפות מהקבינט ודורש לחקור אותן. במילים אחרות, הממשלה דורשת מהיועצת לחקור את הממשלה ואז מתלוננת שהיא חוקרת את הממשלה. מדובר, אגב, באותה ממשלה שהפילה את "חוק הפוליגרף" שהיה אמור לתת כלים לחקור את ההדלפות שלה.
נספח 64 הוא ציטוט של דברים שאמר ראש הממשלה בפתח ישיבת הממשלה. זה לא קשור ליועצת, לא ברור מה זה עושה שם, אבל ראוי שתדעו שבתיק בהרב-מיארה מופיעה השורה המרשיעה הבאה: "הממשלה תאשר היום את השתתפותנו בוועידת האקלים".
הנספח האחרון, מס' 83 בחלק ב', הוא נוסח החלטת ממשלה מ-2006 (!) שקובע שהיועץ המשפטי לממשלה יעמוד בראש צוות למאבק בפשיעה החמורה. היועץ המדובר הוא כבוד השופט בדימוס אליקים רובינשטיין.
וככה זה נמשך ונמשך, עד שאין מנוס מן המסקנה שאו שהיועצת קדושה, או שיריב לוין ירד מהפסים (או שניהם). כי כל מה שקשור לבטחון, לניהול מדינה, ליחסי חוץ, אפילו לכלכלה, היועצת כמעט לא מתערבת. מדי פעם הם מעלים בפניה הצעות מטורפות לגמרי רק כדי שהיא תפסול אותן, אבל ברמה המהותית יש רק שני דברים שהיועצת מונעת מהם:
הראשון הוא להעביר כספים מתחת לשולחן.
השני הוא למנות אנשים שלא עומדים בקריטריונים מקצועיים לתפקידים בכירים.
ועל זה, ורק על זה, הם כל כך מעוצבנים.

This long-awaited moment brings joy to the Jewish people and relief to these families, but we remain incomplete.
94 innocent lives are still in Hamas’s grasp—a brutal and unbearable reminder of the horrors inflicted upon us. Their absence is a wound that will not heal until every last hostage is returned.
The road ahead is steep, but we will march forward with unyielding resolve. The international community must hold Hamas accountable, ensuring it upholds this agreement and secures the release of all those still held captive.
