We are aware of social media posts online detailing the injuries sustained by the girls who died and those injured in the attack in Southport on 29 July 2024. The families of the little girls specifically asked that those details not be reported. The families of Bebe, Alice and Elsie and of all those affected in the tragedy have faced unimaginable grief and trauma in the months since the attacks, and do not need their suffering compounded by reckless posts on social media. Please do not post or share detailed accounts of the injuries they sustained. Thank you.

Word of the day (of course) is ‘scurryfunging’, from US dialect: the frantic effort to tidy the house just before guests arrive.

Instead of celebrating my iconic arrival, some of you thought that mocking me will boost your likes? Cute 💅 Since 1947, I’ve stood tall as Norway’s fir-mly rooted thank-you - I’m a timeless symbol of unity, not your clickbait. 🎄 Find out more 👇 linktr.ee/trafalgartree

The Home Affairs Select Committee met this week for a one-off session on asylum seekers and conversion to Christianity. There were two important things that came out of it that the press has largely ignored. Here's what they were: (short🧵) 1/

This is absolutely shocking that members of the Cabinet can't recognise saying somebody made Hester "want to hate all black women" has nothing to do with race Cameron in particular should notice a decade of work going in the bin if the party can't see the most overt racism
Frank Hester's defence now has cabinet-level backing. Mel Stride tells broadcasters: “It’s clear that what he said was inappropriate. He has, as I understand it, apologised for those remarks. I think the critical point here is I don’t think what he was saying was a gender-based or a race-based comment, but it was clearly inappropriate. He has apologised and I think we need to move on from that.” bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-6…

I suppose you need to say this kind of thing if you want to be the next leader of the Conservative Party, but given only 13% of the electorate agree (ipsos.com/en-uk/7-10-britons…) not if you ever want to be Prime Minister. And it makes you a laughing stock internationally

When I look for evidence of misogyny, the irrational hatred of women by men, I see ample evidence of it in all our legal systems and structures, in our hiring and pay practices globally, in how we elect men as “better suited to lead us” despite all evidence to the contrary. /1

On the 6th October 2023 I shared a link on X to a Mail Online article entitled ‘Militant union leader at the heart of doctors strikes is a Labour activist who boasted of charging the NHS for a strike cover shift. I accept that my words were misleading as the subject in question Dr Tom Dolphin was not on strike on the date of the shift in question but was simply covering a shift as a consultant for junior doctors who were on strike on 11th August 2023. I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to Dr Dolphin for any distress upset caused. I will also like to add that I understand that Dr Dolphin actually donated his pay for the covered shift which I believe was £1870 to the BMA strike fund and whilst I do not agree with the strikes I want to go on the record to say that I think it is a very unselfish act on the part of Dr Dolphin to put his money into something he strongly believes in. I will make the same contribution to compensate the upset I may have caused Dr Dolphin. Please Repost.

Time is money. If it takes twice as long to do something you earn half as much. This is the brutal fact at the heart of Brexit. Let’s "Brexit" a £12.99 paperback, blow by blow, and see what difference leaving the single market has made.
