I was surprised how bad it was just walking from the hotel to the Rails World venue. One strung-out guy wanted to fight me for some reason, another was swinging wildly and swearing profusely. Lots of zombie vibes too. Whatever Austin is doing, it's not working.
2017: Austin spent $35 million on homelessness. 2,036 homeless counted.
2025: $118 million. 3,238 homeless.
Spending more than tripled and homelessness went up 59%.
If you service the homeless lifestyle, you will get more of it.
The NGOs that run this system get paid by the problem of homelessness, so they have no reason to end it -- in fact, their only incentive is to make sure the problem grows.

I spent my day watching the place I love more than anything in the world be irreversibly destroyed for no reason.
There is not a single logical explanation for what DHS and its contractors are doing to Big Bend. It has become perfectly clear: they are using the destruction of this crown jewel national park as a vehicle to transfer billions of taxpayer dollars into the pockets of these politically connected contractors.
They are sacrificing our public lands so obscenely rich men who have never once set foot here can get even richer. And if they can do it here in Texas' wildest and most beloved national park, they will do it everywhere.

The food industry is poisoning us for profit and causing a massive spike in diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure.
They add chemicals, preservatives, and artificial colorings to our food in order to cut costs because under our capitalist system their sole priority is profit, not the people’s nutritional health.
But why would our government allow the food industry to poison us? Because our government and both parties are bought off by the corporations making our food.
This is the core problem with allowing capital to control the government. Every law, every budget, and every decision made prioritizes corporate profits over the health, safety and well-being of the people.

In Texas:
Sexual assault: 2nd degree felony. Max 20 years.
Robbery: 2nd degree felony. Max 20 years.
Possession of 400+ grams of THC concentrate: FIRST DEGREE FELONY. Up to 99 years or LIFE.
This is law as of Friday.
Texas will tell you it is the freest state in the country right up until it puts you in a cage for a gummy.
Unfortunately, none of this is new. The felony machine delta-8 just got dropped into was already running.
Texas has always split the plant from everything made out of it. Flower sits in its own statute and carries a Class B misdemeanor. Concentrate sits in Penalty Group 2 alongside amphetamines and MDMA, where a single gram is a state jail felony.
The state also measures by total product weight, not by how much THC is actually in it. A gummy is mostly sugar and gelatin. Under Texas law the sugar counts against you. In 2014 Williamson County charged a 19 year old in Round Rock with a first degree felony over a tray of brownies by putting the flour and the butter on the scale with the hash oil.
Five to life for baked goods.
That is what delta-8 and THCP entered on Friday. Legal Thursday. Sold over a counter, in a licensed shop, with sales tax collected by the same state that now calls it Schedule I.
There is no victim here. There has never been a victim here. Just Texans in cages over a molecule, and the men who wrote this pouring themselves a drink tonight.

The Knicks are an example of smart, courageous team building. Firing Thibs for Mike Brown was a ballsy decision by the Knicks. One of many that got them to this point. RJ & Quickley for OG, trading a 1st for Hart, signing Brunson to a big deal, the Randle for KAT deal, sending a ton of picks for Bridges, and moves around the edges like adding Shamet and Alvarado. Some teams are built through the draft. The Knicks were built through masterful trades and signings. Big time credit to Leon Rose and that New York front office.

Paid $11 for a full meal.
$6 for a glass of wine that would cost $18 in America.
The waiter didn’t need a 25% tip to survive.
The restaurant paid him a living wage.
He took public transit home.
Clean. On time. $2.
No car payment. No insurance bill. No $4 gas.
He didn’t win the lottery.
He didn’t get a raise.
He just lives in a country that decided basic life shouldn’t cost everything you have.
Then he remembered he was American.

Tennessee Republicans just split up Memphis, a city that is 63% Black, and stretched its voters across three congressional districts — some reaching nearly 200 miles away — specifically to dilute Black voting power and eliminate their political voice.
