What a joy to congratulate Sam Mostyn AO on her appointment as Australia's New Governor General. This is an inspired choice. She will continue to make a wonderful contribution to the well being of all Australians.

At last, after years of advocacy by so many, and years after other nations took up the cause, these mandatory labels can help to make sure that no one is uninformed about the harm alcohol drinking can do to the baby in the womb.
As of this week, pregnancy health warning labels are now mandatory in Aust & NZ. A long-fought battle by many advocates, decision-makers, researchers, & policy-makers.
The labels will help raise awareness of the harms alcohol can cause during pregnancy.

It is not a ranking any nation could want. According to @FamilyStudies @AIFS Australia has the highest rates of gambling spend per capita in the world. Along with this goes #GamblingHarm at levels that seriously impact people's health and wellbeing and hurts their families.

Our 20 year longitudinal data from growing up in Aust @AIFS_LSAC shows time Dads spent on #childcare is associated with gender egalitarian attitudes in their kids up to age 15. Most powerful influence was time dad spent on housework cf to mum, during the kids adolescence.

And to support those findings #AIFS @FamilyStudies research has shown that child rather than parents' rights focussed Family Law is a necessary pivot to ensure children are not further traumatised by long and alienating procedures in the Family Court. procedures.
Young people in our study were unanimous in agreement that current responses to young victim-survivors of family violence are not adequate & do not meet their safety needs. There are significant opportunities to improve practice.
