Anomie (#Anomie) - It is a gripping scientific thriller that maintains its intensity from beginning to end. Powered by strong performances from #Bhavana and #Rahman, the film succeeds as a tightly written and intelligently executed investigative drama. Bhavana plays a forensic expert whose younger brother Ziyaan (played by Shebin Benson) is a psychiatric patient. Years earlier, both siblings witnessed their parents die in a tragic car accident, an incident that left Shebin deeply traumatized. Since then, he has been under psychiatric care, while Bhavana manages both her professional responsibilities and her role as his guardian. The narrative takes a sharp turn when Shebin suddenly goes missing. Despite a police complaint and parallel searches by both the police and Bhavana, he is found dead the next day at the very spot where their parents had died. Poison is recovered near the body, and the postmortem report reveals a significant amount of propofol in his system. More unsettling is the timeline. Shebin’s last voice message to Bhavana was sent at 12:17 PM, while the estimated time of death is around 3 AM. The unanswered question of where he was during those missing 15 hours becomes central to the mystery. Bhavana soon recalls an earlier forensic report involving a young man named Neeraj, who died in an identical manner. As she examines tire marks found near Shebin’s body, she becomes convinced that this is not a suicide but a carefully planned murder. She presents her findings to the police commissioner, insisting the case be treated as homicide. Though this puts pressure on the investigating officer Rahman, he assures the commissioner that the matter will be handled responsibly. But the situation escalates when another woman, Shaheena, is found dead in a government doctor’s car, once again with propofol detected in her body. Disturbed by the similarities across all three cases, a district judge questions the police’s initial assumptions and orders Rahman to identify the culprit. Losing faith in the official investigation, Bhavana decides to pursue the truth on her own. While the police interrogate doctors, assistants, and intermediaries involved in leaking medical data, Bhavana focuses on a voice message sent by her brother shortly before his death. Audio analysis reveals the presence of another voice in the recording, one that sounds familiar to her. Just as the investigation gains momentum, Bhavana’s lover is found dead under similar circumstances. However, unlike the previous victims, his body shows signs of physical assault. This crucial difference deepens the mystery and intensifies Bhavana’s personal trauma. Her independent inquiry leads her to an earlier victim named Jessie, a medical student whose room is filled with books and research papers on death, including material related to a study titled The Equation of Death. This trail points toward Sanjay, the researcher who led the controversial study, and Bhavana begins to suspect that her brother’s death is connected to this larger experiment. Meanwhile, Rahman pieces together CCTV footage and location patterns involving an ATM cash transport vehicle, eventually narrowing down a specific area. Both investigations gradually converge, setting the stage for a tense climax that answers the core questions, who the killer is, what drove him to commit these crimes, and how science was misused as a tool for murder. Director Riyas makes a striking debut with Anomie, delivering a well paced thriller that never loses its grip. The film is further elevated by the background score composed by Harshavardhan Rameshwar, whose music sustains the suspense and complements the film’s dark tone throughout. Anomie is a smart, engaging scientific thriller that balances emotion and investigation with precision.
