We're reporting only a fraction of measles cases in the US; some estimates put it as low as 20% in states like PA. This outbreak is much larger than what's reported and is spilling into highly vulnerable communities like babies and pregnant women. We will lose our Measles elimination status this month, and it will take years of responsible public health management to get it back.

Eisenkot, Golan and Liberman all ran on drafting the Haredim. Now all three look ready to break that promise rather than sit with the Arab parties:
1) Liberman went into the election with three pledges: no sitting with the Arabs, no sitting with Netanyahu, no sitting with the Haredim. On Friday he dropped the third. He wrote that his party will “be flexible and compromise,” “including the draft law.” He kept his veto on Ra’am and the Joint List, even if they only abstain.
2) The draft is the issue Liberman built his brand on. In 2019 he refused to join Netanyahu’s coalition over the draft law, which forced a repeat election. Now he calls compromising on it “painful” but necessary.
3) During the campaign, Eisenkot promised “no compromise” on the draft law, Haredim included. His partners are now saying publicly that this promise is up for negotiation.
4) Eisenkot has made recognizing Hamas as a terrorist organization a condition for joining his coalition. That condition targets the Arab parties. The Haredi parties face no comparable test.
5) Eisenkot’s camp has been weighing a setup in which UTJ abstains on the government’s swearing-in and joins later. Liberman has ruled out the same arrangement with the Arab parties.
6) Golan has spent years demanding that the Haredim serve. On Friday he posted that there is “real progress” toward a change government. He said nothing about the draft.
7) Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, who is close to both Liberman and the Haredi parties, is reportedly mediating between the sides.
8) UTJ refused to recommend Netanyahu to President Herzog. Its newspaper Yated Ne’eman wrote that the party would back whichever candidate offers “the best and most legal arrangement,” meaning on the draft. It is waiting for the best offer, and the change bloc is negotiating with it.
Ra’am and the Joint List gave Eisenkot 19 of his 67 recommendations. Without them, he would not have the mandate. The Arab parties got him the mandate, but they are kept out of the government. The Haredim refused to recommend him, and they are the ones being offered a deal on the draft. The racism in Israel trascends political lines and there is nothing these men wouldn't do to avoid bringing the Arabs into the coalition.

A new twist: In a post just before Shabbat in Israel, Gadi Eisenkot suggested forming a core government anchored by his 48 seats, then inviting others to join on the basis of principles he has consistently espoused. That reverses the usual paradigm of negotiating quid pro quos before forming a government, rather than afterward. The most dramatic political move since the election.
He seems to be daring his potential coalition partners to vote against him—even as Lieberman says he opposes a minority government, meaning one with fewer than 61 seats. Without Lieberman, Eisenkot has 41. There is no shortcut: the two must thrash out their differences and coordinate.

Criticism of Israel’s government isn’t automatically antisemitism, but organizing a large group of people to travel to Jewish-owned businesses to attempt to force them out of business and out of the city on the eve of the anniversary of Kristallnacht definitely is.

💥Head of the Israeli Bar Association: "Israel stands this evening before the most tangible threat it has ever faced—a challenge to the results of the Knesset elections, through an unprecedented campaign of delegitimization of the results, as well as through the exertion of extreme political pressurebon the head of the Shin Bet, in contravention of the law, and in contravention of the decisions of the chairman of the Central Elections Committee and the directives of the Attorney General.
I hope that the reports disseminated in the last few hours, according to which the head of the Shin Bet is lending his hand to a move over which flies a black flag of illegality, contain no truth.
Any directive, order, or action whose purpose is to prevent, delay, or undermine the certification of the election results and their publication is invalid and constitutes a challenge to the democratic process and the rule of law.
The only binding decision is the decision of the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Supreme Court Justice Solberg.
Any attempt to ignore his decisions and to act in contravention of them is tantamount to a challenge to the State of Israel, as a Jewish and democratic state."

In a devastating 1rst-person piece, NYC education advocate and mom Adriana Aviles tells how her son received the highest grades in math throughout elementary and middle school in Queens’ District 26, the best in the city.
Yet now in high school, she soon discovered, “He couldn’t solve basic algebra. He couldn’t do geometry. He couldn’t compute elementary-school fractions."
“My shock soon gave way to heartbreak, then anger. The NYC education system had betrayed my son to make itself look better."
“I failed too. I didn’t scrutinize his work closely or check his performance on state test scores because I figured if his report cards were good then everything was fine.”
“I looked back and discovered he was deemed ‘not proficient’ in math on a 7th-grade state exam.”
