“No Double Standards: Denaturalize Anyone Who Lied on Citizenship Papers—Start With Ilhan Omar”
Florida Rep. Randy Fine just said the quiet part out loud. When asked whether the same scrutiny hitting Ilhan Omar should apply to high-profile figures tied to the administration—“Do you think this type of scrutiny should be placed on others who are high-profile with connections to the administration like first lady Melania Trump [or] Elon Musk, who was the head of DOGE?”—Fine answered that the law must be equal.
He stated: “I believe that we should go back to 1990 and we should re-evaluate everyone who has become a naturalized citizen because what I am understanding is – the kind of fraud we’re hearing about from Ilhan Omar is endemic in Minnesota with many, many, many people having gotten citizenship without giving appropriate paperwork.
So yeah, I think Ilhan Omar needs to be the first. She certainly should not be the last.”
Fine added that anyone who lied on their paperwork “should be denaturalized and should be deported. Anyone.” He noted he knows of no allegations against Melania Trump (naturalized 2006) or Elon Musk (citizenship 2002), but refused to carve out exceptions. Omar’s D.C. home was raided October 12 by Homeland Security Investigations in an ongoing federal probe focused on possible birth-date misstatements that could have allowed her to derive citizenship as a minor in 2000. She denies wrongdoing.
Citizenship is not a permanent shield for fraud. Equal application of the law protects the system for everyone who followed the rules.
