Replace Jude Bellingham with Bruno Fernandes in this Real Madrid team, and Madrid win this game 3-0. Madrid are missing a player who can consistently deliver the final ball for their rapid attackers. Bellingham offers work rate, but beating Barcelona requires WAY more than that. Bruno’s creativity and killer passes would have completely changed this game.

Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Barcelona was arguably José Mourinho's finest performance since returning to the club. Real Madrid went into El Clásico with a coherent plan to hurt Barcelona, who looked genuinely uncomfortable playing against us. Mourinho deserves credit for recognizing that Real Madrid cannot keep sitting deep, surrendering possession and relying on individual brilliance to beat the best teams. The decision to start Bernardo Silva alongside Aurélien Tchouaméni was particularly inspired, considering how reluctant he'd been to use Bernardo in previous matches. Bernardo spent most of the game tracking Pedri, while Bellingham repeatedly pressured Rodri and occasionally stepped forward to close down Cubarsí. Arda Güler's movement inside provided another passing option whenever Barcelona pressed, and Tchouaméni was outstanding at covering space and breaking up attacks. Barcelona's midfield, which we had feared would dominate this matchup, struggled to establish any rhythm. Mourinho made Flick's team uncomfortable playing their game, and Barca seemed afraid of Real Madrid's pace and reluctant to commit players forward too quickly. Federico Valverde's performance at right back was another enormous factor. His overlapping runs gave Güler the freedom to move inside, while his athleticism helped Real Madrid defend the wide areas without sacrificing attacking ambition. The contrast became obvious when Dumfries replaced him and Madrid's progression down that side slowed considerably. Then there's Yan Diomande, whose emergence has completely changed the balance of Real Madrid's attack. At 19, he's already displaying an extraordinary understanding of when to dribble, when to recycle possession and when to release the ball. He finished with a team-high 66 touches, repeatedly attracted multiple defenders and gave Real Madrid a reliable outlet under pressure. Diomande's performance wasn't perfect. He missed a major opportunity, made some questionable decisions in the final third and became less effective after Cancelo caught him in the second half. But his willingness to recover possession, help Cucurella defend Yamal and consistently look for Mbappé makes him invaluable. That defensive commitment was particularly important. Real Madrid showed that they can afford to have Mbappé focus primarily on threatening the opposition's defensive line when the players around him are prepared to do the work. Diomande's presence has made Madrid considerably more cohesive without compromising their attacking threat. Mbappé, meanwhile, delivered exactly what he's paid to do. Two goals from approximately 1.6 xG, constantly threatening Barcelona's high line and punishing their defensive mistakes. His touches weren't always perfect, but his movement remains devastating. He can turn a seemingly harmless situation into a goalscoring opportunity within seconds. Bellingham deserves praise. Despite looking physically exhausted for significant portions of the match, he won 13 of his 15 duels, more than the entire Barcelona midfield combined, and repeatedly overwhelmed Rodri. His poor decision on a promising breakaway early in the 2nd half illustrated how fatigue can affect his execution, but even an exhausted Jude remains one of Real Madrid's most important players. The concern is how much longer Mourinho can continue demanding these performances from him without adequate rest. Jude's absence leaves the team struggling to connect midfield and attack, so he rarely sits games. The second half also exposed some limitations. Barcelona equalized from a poorly defended corner, Real Madrid wasted opportunities to put the game away, and Mourinho was arguably too conservative with his substitutions. An earlier introduction of Trent or Brahim might have helped restore control when Barcelona began pushing higher. Fortunately, Camavinga's introduction proved decisive. His combination with Bellingham and Güler, followed by the brilliant recovery and pass to Mbappé for the winner, was an extraordinary contribution. After seeing few minutes to start the season, his recent performances suggest Real Madrid may finally be getting the player we've been waiting to see. Credit to Zidane also for sparking some of this rejuvenation. Defensively, the entire team deserves credit. Huijsen and Konaté were excellent, Tchouaméni covered an enormous amount of ground, and Cucurella made life miserable for Yamal. Real Madrid defended aggressively without losing their willingness to play football. Barcelona had spells of pressure, but they rarely looked as dangerous as their attacking numbers this season would suggest. The biggest takeaway, however, concerns what happens next. Mourinho's postgame comments about pairing midfielders with complementary qualities suggest he finally understands why the Tchouaméni-Valverde double pivot was so limiting. Valverde belongs at right back, and Madrid need technical quality alongside their physical midfielders. But this also brings us back to Vinícius Júnior. Real Madrid have now produced three consecutive performances with a considerably more balanced attack. Diomande offers defensive work, ball retention and selfless movement that allow Bellingham, Güler and Mbappé to operate in their preferred spaces. Reintroducing Vinícius as an automatic starter threatens to undo much of that progress. There is still room for him to contribute, particularly as a rotation option, but Real Madrid cannot keep organizing the entire team around accommodating individual reputations and salaries. Mourinho has demonstrated that this squad possesses the quality to compete with Europe's best. The only question is whether he'll be allowed to keep selecting the players and profiles that make it work. For now, Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona at Camp Nou, Mbappé has delivered another decisive performance, and Mourinho has given us a genuine reason to believe in this team again. This was the Real Madrid we've been asking to see.
Barcelona 1 : 2 Real Madrid ▪ xG: 1.49 - 1.42 ▪ xThreat: 1.51 - 0.75 ▪ Possession: 62.4% - 37.6% ▪ Field Tilt: 77.7% - 22.3% ▪ Def Action Height: 51.1 - 39.3

Mourinho is a genius, I'll explain. Every single thing Mou has done that drastically improved our performances in the last 2 matches were all I identified and at some point tried out by Xabi Alonso. The difference between them is their approach. Xabi Alonso was direct from on set. From getting Vini subbed a lot, to playing Arda Güler deeper, to identifying that Valverde wasn't good enough as a pivot. On Mou's side, I think he studied Alonso's situation. Mind you, he already praised Xabi and said he had the potential to become a great manager, following his development and experiences while growing up and playing football too. So Xabi's sack might have also shocked him, but he saw what happened, which was the fact that these players have power and are prioritised over the coaches. At Real Madrid it's believed that the players available are the best in the world, so any coach coming into the team must find a way to make them work. Failing to do so, which could be the team being disunited, not buying your idea etc, will get the managers job at risk. Mou understood this, so he decided to do things gradually and slowly, more like pinching you, massage it for you and tell you sorry. "It was difficult for me to keep my 2 RBs on the bench and play Fede". "I feel bad for Vini, he's working hard to get to his best, that's why I feel for him". "Fede Valverde's best position is on the pitch". Running to hug Vini after he scored. Can you see those responses and the action? Giving them hope, whereas he's putting them in their place. Then, the good side of it is that results are coming, which backs his ideas too. So the management will see him as doing the right thing and the players have been somehow convinced to buy his ideas too, without any problems. This is my observation.

PSG have seriously lost their way in this game, injuries did not help, Hakimi missing a blatant 1-on-1 did not help either. Safonov putting a poor hand ✋🏿 on the goal conceded also compounds things Now Barcelona will sense blood and the game for the taking

The female commentator makes sure to mention that it was a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge at least 7 times just to emphasize that it was a very fair challenge Meanwhile, Kvaratskhelia is truly injured and gone, planting his foot wrongly under that strong challenge

Kaley GRB bala The point of your football match is an elbow? Your whole gameplan is tied to your player aggravating someone so much with jersey holding that he lashes back out? Why do you even come to play then?
🚨 Luis Garcia Plaza (Sevilla coach: "The referee should've SENT OFF Arda Güler. It was a clear red. We should've played at 11vs10 for 70 minutes. And he should've RULED OUT Mbappé's first goal because there was a FOUL by Konaté. I don't know why VAR didn't call the referee, maybe because REAL MADRID COULDN'T DROP MORE POINTS BEFORE EL CLASICO. MAYBE BECAUSE IF THEY LET US WIN TONIGHT, THEY WOULD BE 9 POINTS BEHIND.”
