The RSEQ university season is now in full swing as the league opened this week. There’s a lot of talent, and I have a few quick thoughts based on preseason games and obviously the first week of league play…

Thetford’s Cameron Mekou-Girard is a menace on the interior. He snatches boards and scores on bunnies at the rim. They also have Abderrahim Alaphillippe at the guard spot to score and set the table. They’re on the road at Brebeuf tonight.

2027 Vanier wing Cameron Woods drew the toughest defensive matchup last week and also added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Tonight, Vanier hosts Montmorency and one has to think Woods will draw their top assignment in what many are calling the game of the week.

2027 Dawson G Ethan Noa More put up an efficient 28 points (11-for-20 shooting) last week, and if he keeps that consistency heading into tonight’s road matchup at Outaouais, it could potentially be a sign of things to come for the season.

2027 St-Foy wing Francis Coteau made some killer momentum-swinging shots from long range last week, and I’m curious to see how that translates at home tonight against Champlain.

Sherbrooke 2027 F Drissa Toure will likely defend every position tonight. Last week against Ahuntsic, he covered guards, forwards and interior players depending on matchups. I would expect that to continue tonight potentially. Sherbrooke hosts Abbott.

Do NOT sleep on Outaouais’ Darcy Girumugisha and Etienne Beaumont. They can both handle the ball some and blow by defenders to create for themselves and others. They host Dawson tonight.

With week 2 of the RSEQ CEGEP D1 tipping off later tonight, there are a few players worth tracking that will help determine the outcome of the games. Let’s dive into it….

Wesle Parlo Fils, Adrien Cooren and Julien Arsenault impress many in rookie debuts

Albert Caza, Raphael Amuri and Mathis Beauchamp make their mark.
