Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
Write, for example,'The night is shattered
and the blue stars shiver in the distance.' #PabloNeruda

So well put.🤍
Being religious isn't about avoiding difficult questions, it's about facing them honestly and being open to answers that might challenge us.
"Being religious means asking passionately the question of meaning of our existence & being willing to receive answers, even if it hurts"
Life changes in the instant. The ordinary instant…this line by Didion has been haunting me today while I process the tragic loss of a former colleague, mentor and senior in a road accident. What could be more heartbreaking than the reminder of how fragile our time together is…

Latin America, Pakistan, Egypt and Indonesia: Why Militaries Relinquish—or Retain—Power
Latin America’s experience offers an important lesson: economic crises, human rights movements and civilian coalitions can help end military rule. But removing generals from government is easier than dismantling the power they leave behind.
In Pakistan and Egypt, military business interests, divided civilian politicians and strategic ties with foreign powers help sustain that influence. Indonesia shows that change is possible. After the 1997–98 financial crisis, it ended the military’s formal dual role in politics. Yet civilian supremacy remains contested.
The real test of democracy isn’t just who wins elections. It’s whether elected leaders have the authority to govern—and the institutions to keep that authority intact.
It’s straight up slowly steeped hardcore pakistani #chai.
