It is the month of Kattak (mid-October to mid-November). In many places around the globe, the air is crisp, the skies are blue, and the leaves have begun to fall from the trees. The atmosphere is buzzing with anticipation as people look forward to reaping the fruits of their labor from previous months and lighting the lamps of Divali. #Sikhi #Wisdom #GuruNanakSahib #WeeklyInspiration

In this changing season, as the nights get longer and the darkness settles around us, we pause to ask: What deeds will we do? What kind of lamp will we light? #IkOankar #Nam #SikhCommunity

What does Sikhi say about death and the afterlife? In Sikhi, death is the end of our journey on earth. Unlike some traditions that focus on heaven, hell, or reincarnation, Sikhi emphasizes living a life of love and connection with the Divine. The afterlife is not the focus; instead, the goal is to live righteously, treating all creation with respect and compassion. And, when death comes, we are asked to embrace it as the completion of the Divine’s gift of life. Watch: youtu.be/A_XoDGDQsWc?si=UQYY… Have questions or thoughts to share? Today in #Sikh History: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi remarked in his speech that "India rose through the Jallianwala Bagh" massacre, drawing attention to the relationship between Indian nationalism and violence against Sikhs. It came after Gandhi's public acts of forgiveness towards Brigadier-General Reginald Edward Harry Dyer in August 1920 and later in November 1938. Dyer had commanded British Indian Army troops to open fire on an assembly of unarmed civilians at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Panjab. This brutal incident resulted in the deaths of nearly 400 people, according to British records, while Indian sources estimated over 1,000 casualties. #TodayInHistory #India #Punjab #Panjab #SikhHistory

In this couplet, Guru Amardas Sahib exposes the pretension within us: claiming to know without experience is imposture. Just as only one who has walked on the moon can truly describe it, only through lived experience can we speak of the Divine Command of IkOankar (One Creative and Pervasive Force, 1Force, the One). Preaching without practice, he warns, becomes a poisonous noose that suffocates the Light-force within and misleads others. In a world of endless data and easy sharing, are we spreading truth or abstraction? Are we tying nooses or cutting them? The eighth month of Barah Maha Katak occurs from mid-October to mid-November. The second harvest has begun; what is sowed is now becoming fruitful. The human-bride has now taken refuge in the Wisdom of the Guru. She’s walking on the Guru’s path. She’s nourishing in the Guru’s teachings, and the Wisdom enables union with the Divine-Husband. She blooms in delight. Follow along as the human-bride seeks an understanding of the purpose of deeds. What do they do to us? And what can they do for us? #Sikhi #Sikhism #SikhCommunity #Wisdom #Sikhs #BarahMaha

Karma in Sikhi isn’t just about how our actions shape our lives. We can choose wisely and act with clarity, but in the end, it’s not only effort that determines outcomes; it is the grace which decides what happens—the grace of the Divine, the grace from the One. Today in #Sikh History: The Akali Dal passed the Anandpur Sahib Resolution demanding an autonomous region in the north of India wherein Sikh interests are constitutionally recognized. The resolution advocated for a federal structure for the Indian Union in which the central government would grant autonomy to the provincial governments in all areas except defense, currency, and foreign relations. The Panjabi version of the resolution described Sikhs as a nation and demanded structural arrangements that would entail a prominent role for Sikhs in the administration of the state. #TodayInHistory #India #Punjab #Panjab #SikhHistory

In our current context, we are caught up in the plays of political and religious leaders, influencers, and commentators. The problems of our present often seem unsolvable and unprecedented because we attribute a kind of permanence to them. We are well-aware of the rise of populism and demagogues. #Sikhi #Wisdom #GuruNanakSahib #AsaKiVar #WeeklyInspiration

We have watched as our views polarize—as echo chambers in online spaces lead to real-world violence and human rights violations by governments and constituents alike. We bear witness to genocides on our phones, and bear witness to impunity for the perpetrators of these genocides. #Sabad #IkOankar #Nam

Today in #Sikh History: On 20 Sept 1981, Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, head of the Mehta Chowk branch of the Bhindranwale Taksal, willingly courted arrest at Taksal headquarters. He had been accused of being responsible for the death of anti-Sikh newspaper publisher Lala Jagat Narain. Narain was vehemently anti-Sikh and, during the Panjabi Suba Morcha, had encouraged Hindu Panjabis to list their mother language as Hindi. He consistently wrote against the Sikhs, going so far as to denigrate the Sikh Gurus. Due to insufficient evidence, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was released on this date from Ferozepur Jail in 1981, less than a month after his arrest. He was never formally charged with any crimes. His arrest and swift release from prison elevated his standing in the Sikh community, leading to his non-violent morcha to secure rights for Sikhs, which eventually merged with the Shiromani Akali Dal and became the Dharam Yudh Morcha. Despite being labeled a terrorist, Sant Jarnail Singh was never officially charged or issued an arrest warrant, even before the Indian army's 1984 attack on the Sri Harimandar Sahib and Akal Takhat Sahib Complex. #TodayInHistory #India #Punjab #Panjab #SikhHistory

Love and devotion can open pathways to a life free from sorrow. On October 5, we gathered at Bhai Vir Singh Heritage Museum and Library for a special lecture by Harinder Singh (@1Force), "Bhagat Ravidas Ji: Love–Devotion to Sorrow-less-ville", commemorating the 650th Birth Anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas Ji. The gathering brought together voices from academia, public life, and the community to reflect on the enduring wisdom of Bhagat Ravidas Ji and its relevance to our lives today. The programme included a welcome address by Amb. Navdeep Suri (@navdeepsuri), a Q&A session moderated by Prof. Manjinder Singh, addresses by Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar (@NijjarDr), Chief Guest; and Prof. Kiranjeet Sethi, Chair of the programme and vote of thanks by Prof. Joginder Singh. We thank the Bhai Vir Singh Heritage Museum and Library and Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan for bringing people together for this meaningful occasion and creating space for reflection and dialogue. #SikhRI #BhagatRavidasJi #Gurbani #SikhWisdom
