Today marks exactly 10 years since Hacker T. Dog delivered the greatest unscripted line in British television history. "We're just normal men... We're just innocent men."

Sadly after 14 years of Tory rule there are no longer enough affluent people for this to work
The realignment is over. After a decade chasing Mansfield and Hartlepool, the Tories are once again the party of affluent England. A more coherent coalition, says Patrick Maguire, but a smaller one - and with no clear path to a majority... thetimes.com/comment/columni…

When the proof of Fermat's last theorem was announced by Wiles in June 1993, newspapers around the world covered it extensively. I was a ten-year-old boy in Calcutta, India, and the story was splashed across my local newspaper. A few months later, I went to a bookshop with my grandfather and bought two popular books that tried to explain what all the excitement was about. Yesterday was the single greatest day of mathematical breakthroughs in history. This is not an exaggeration. In terms the collective significance and depth of the results released, this was at least ten times, perhaps even a hundred times, as momentous as the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. So where is the media? Where are the headlines, the breathless newsrooms, the door to door conversations? Where is the sense of incredible wonder this moment deserves?

Help To Buy returns.
This government is introducing the Your First Home scheme to help more young people buy their first home with a deposit of just 2.5%. That means less to save upfront, and lower monthly costs once you’ve got the keys. And this help is coming soon, with pre-registration set to open by the end of the year.

I’m only half joking when I say that our country would be in a much better place if politicians still responded with such utter disdain for deeply stupid questions

Gave us one of my favorite pieces of covid era art
“Truly Madly Deeply” is from Savage Garden’s 1997 self-titled debut album. The romantic pop ballad became the Australian duo’s biggest international hit, peaking at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, topping the charts in Australia and Canada and spending 10 weeks at #1 on the US Adult Contemporary chart. Originally titled "Magical Kisses," the song was inspired by Darren Hayes's relationship with his wife and was further developed after the band's label encouraged the duo to include a romantic ballad on their debut album. Hayes recorded the final lead vocals in a makeshift studio in his bedroom in Brisbane, giving the performance an intimate quality. The song enjoyed extraordinary longevity, spending 123 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 Recurrents chart after leaving the main Hot 100, while a successful 2006 cover by Cascada introduced it to a new generation of listeners.

Claude Mythos 5 built a malicious Python package, created accounts, and published it, where it was live for roughly an hour and successfully infected a company! Anthropic never noticed!! Competitive pressure is making companies move too fast to correctly secure systems!
In a review of our cybersecurity evaluations, we found three incidents in which a Claude model reached the internet from within or while interacting with a third-party evaluation environment, and then gained unauthorized access to the real systems of three different organizations. Our post describes what happened, how it happened, and what we’re changing. We encourage other AI developers to perform similar reviews. We conducted this review together with @Irregular, one of our evaluation partners, and thank them for the joint investigation and their collaboration on this post. This type of collaboration is increasingly critical to safe, rigorous evaluation of models, and we look forward to continuing to work together on security. anthropic.com/news/investiga…

I think the fundamental disconnect here is that you wants politics to solve man's search for meaning and I want politics to deliver a prosperous, safe, free society in which everyone can go find meaning in something other than politics.

AISI!
1/ Anthropic’s Opus 5 model was released publicly today. @AISecurityInst tested it before release, and you can see their contributions summarised in Opus 5’s system card. Another clear example of the importance of world-leading capabilities the UK has continued to build through AISI. The speed, robustness, and consistency of AISI’s pre-deployment testing keeps the UK at the forefront of understanding frontier AI capabilities. It has never been more essential than now. As Britain’s AI Minister, I will continue to champion this ability. www-cdn.anthropic.com/c5fbac…
