If you want to know what the next big public scandal is going to be, it's right here - the rotten Single Justice Procedure. Justice done on the cheap and behind closed doors which is leading to horrible injustices. (Chapeau to @kirkkorner for doing so much to expose it) ⬇️
Replying to @kirkkorner
This poor man from Shropshire was prosecuted by the DVLA after his sister & her son took their own lives in the space of 24 hours He owed £6.67 It's fast-track justice It's likely no prosecutor saw this letter, the tragic circumstances weren't known & the case wasn't withdrawn

On the one hand, sacking all the people who used to check copy for typos has saved newspaper owners a lot of money. On the other hand there is the last line of this obituary in today’s @thetimes.

Let's call this what it really is: this is criminal damage, pure and simple. Taking a chainsaw to decades of community challenge, service and support, and putting a brick through the windows of hundreds of dedicated journalists' lives. And it will never be repaired. – at Cheltenham, England

The newspaper industry has lost two impressive - characters. Jim Fitzpatrick, chairman of @irish_news, and Mike Lowe, @cotswoldeditor1 editor of assorted daily titles and author of the Grey Cardigan, will be missed enormously. Here is my tribute to both. sandsmediaservices.blogspot.…

We're so very to hear of the passing of the editor and legend that was Mike Lowe. He stood at the helm of the Good Ship Cotswold Life for 15 years, and guided her through waters both choppy and calm. One of the true greats, and he will be missed terribly.

Terribly sad news about my old boss. One of a kind is putting it mildly. Learned so much working for him at Derby
I expect many of you may have heard by now but I’m sorry to have to tell you that Mike passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon after a short illness. On top of all the other problems he has endured the past few years it was just too much for him. The end of an era . Helen.

As we celebrate the great Jon Snow, let’s also pay tribute to the wonderful @LibbyWienerITV who also put in a brilliant shift serving British journalism. Another lobby legend.
Nice of @itvnews at Ten to give @LibbyWienerITV the top story and live as she prepares to leave the broadcaster after 30+ years
