The Russian Kosmos-2612 sat has closed in to the US owned ICEYE X36 radar satellite, which is used by Ukraine. It has been station keeping within 5 km & may close in to a few meters. Unclear, what Russia is going to do, but the situation is concerning. xitter.cf/Marco_Langbroek/status…
1/x According to current orbital elements, the Russian #KOSMOS 2612 satellite is now within 1-2 km of #ICEYE-X36. Based on current elements, it might come within meters of the latter within a few hours from now. This is an #RPO without consent. (cont.)

WTF??? Trump is buying massive amounts of Russian diesel β€” funding Putin’s war on Ukraine and bankrolling Iran, a regime at war with the US. This isn’t politics. It’s open collaboration with America’s enemies. Benedict Arnold was a traitor. Trump just said β€œHold my beer.”

Then I'm the ENEMY! The term "super intelligence" is neither more accurate nor is it highly accepted. Only Trump's sycophants use this term. But people knowledgable and working in this field use the established "artificial intelligence". This is not 1984, we do not use newspeak!

An old defunct Soviet weather satellite, Meteor-2 7, has suffered a break-up event in orbit on 5 october 2026. Some tens of fragments have been detected. space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/… xitter.cf/shell_jim/status/21079…
New space debris event with Soviet satellite launched in 1981 Yesterday @LeoLabs_Space provided public notification of a debris-generating event from the defunct Soviet Meteor-2-7 satellite launched in 1981 (US catalog 12456 / 1981-043A). As of this writing, there has not been a notification of the event from @S4S_SDA via @SpaceTrackOrg . LeoLabs has reported "tens of fragments" (ref their x post in comments). This is actually the second such event from this satellite, with the first occurring in March of 2004. The Meteor-2 satellites were the 2nd generation of Soviet weather satellites. @planet4589 provides a mass estimate of ~ 1500 kg. Using pre- and post-orbital position information (element sets), the time of the debris event is approximately 2026-10-05 09:45 +/- 10 min UTC. Meteor 2-7's altitude of 855 km is in a dense region for orbital debris. Might we have experienced an impact from one of the numerous untracked debris objects? It is furthermore observed that the event time estimate places the 81 degree inclined satellite near its highest latitude position (ref graphic below), where the debris spatial density is highest. We will likely never know.... #SpaceDomainAwareness #SpaceTrafficManagement #LongTermSustainmentOfSpace (Orbital data courtesy of U.S. Space Forces – Space (S4S) via space-track.org and used with permission per ODR 24-002-4)

SpaceX has for the 1st time launched Starship to orbit. Ship-41 & Booster-21 lost 1 Raptor engine each on ascend. 26 Starlink v3 sats were deployed. Then successful deorbit burn. Booster made water landing off coast of Texas & Ship near Hawaii. Congratulations to SpaceX.

This is an interesting development: After Trump banned CNN from the White House TV press pool, the other members - NBC, ABC, CBS & Fox (!!!) - decided to stop covering those events. This leaves Trump without coverage by the major US News Networks.

Top Pentagon officials confirm the US operates β€œon-orbit space control weapons” (definition unclear) to defend against attacks - the clearest admission yet. China & Russia slam it as escalation. We have not yet identified the satellites related to this although there are suspects

A Falcon Heavy has launched the Roman Space Telescope to the L2 point. It is a space telescope with a 2.4m primary mirror inherited from a defunct spy satellite prog. It'll in IR survey vast regions of the Universe, probe dark energy & search exoplanets. space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/…

Question to the crowd: What's your experience with expert networks like GLG, Infoquest, AlphaSights etc.? Is it worth setting up accounts there as an expert. Or are these expert networks getting more and more replaced by AI?

I once got a request from GLG (before I even had an account there), but had to decline it eventually as the topic was partially too far from my field of expertise. Afterwards I never got any other requests - so for spaceflight/satellite topics this may not be the right network.

NASA and Katalyst have abandoned plans to boost the aging Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory after an attitude-control issue with the LINK servicer. LINK will still attempt rendezvous and proximity operations, gathering valuable data for future in-space servicing missions.

Chinese company LandSpace's 2nd flight of their Zhuque-3 orbital rocket performed a successful propulsive landing of stage 1. Stage 2 apparently reached orbit. The payload was likely a mass model.

Reportedly SpaceX is turning away customers for dedicated Falcon 9 launches beyond 2028 & has stopped accepting new F9 rideshare reservations. Also halting production of sm expendable hardware (inc. upperstages), signaling a major shift to not yet operational Starship (Bloomberg)
