Why SRs are exiting the space?
10+ auditors I personally know have exited the space in the last few months.
Some switched to ecom. Some to marketing or sales. Some to AI projects. Some just stopped posting and disappeared.
Why?
Yesterday, @code4rena shut down - the platform that kickstarted this entire era of competitive auditing. And honestly, the contest model has been slowly dying for over a year. Most remaining platforms barely run serious contests anymore.
The biggest consequence?
The entire entry path for new researchers is collapsing.
Mid-level and newer auditors can’t find work. Over the past months, dozens have reached out to me offering to audit for free just to get experience. And the reason is always the same:
- No engagements for 1–2 months.
- No clear path forward.
- No realistic way to compete with established names already embedded with top protocols.
But the real problem is deeper than employment.
No new researchers means no new ways of thinking.
The same small group of auditors keeps reviewing the same codebases with the same mental models. And new exploit classes rarely come from repetition - they come from fresh perspectives noticing things everyone else overlooked.
That pipeline is slowly being cut off.
Soon, breaking into smart contract security won’t just be difficult - it’ll be nearly impossible.

Market at its lowest. Contests slowly dying. Newcomers winnings are impossible.
And still - the hope is real. You can still start today, win in this season, and be ready for the next narrative and explosion.
When hard times hit, everyone who wasn't prepared starts thinking "that's it, it's over." It's not. You just need to put in more work these days and be ready when the next great season comes.
Starting from audit contests, earning small, then growing - it's not as easy as it used to be. More restrictions, rules on how many issues you can submit, what's valid, what's not, bla bla.
But one thing stays true - web3 + AI is the space to be in.

Bear market now and its still the best moment to lock in and keep doing what you do.
Everyone is selling crypto, running to AI businesses, AI content, whatever. Do not sleep on security auditing - this space will rise again, trust.
The path is harder now, for newcomers and for old researchers who aren't positioned well. That's just reality.
2 things I'll say:
- If you have some achievements and ever did a private audit - reach out to every audit company/provider/brand you can find. Offer a lower rate than your best days, offer free, whatever it takes. Being in the game > watching from the sidelines. Always.
- Newcomers - now is the time to study hard. There aren't as many new issues dropping every day like the good times, but the opportunities in contests are still there and you can win. You just need to put in more work than before.
Don't leave the space. We need you!

Shift V2 brings better vault standards, cleaner flows, and a fast withdrawal mechanism. We went through it all to make sure it ships safe.
Happy to be Shift's Official Security Partner and be part of what's coming next.

$CARDS on a clean 2x since i laid out my thesis
it will be obvious in hindsight...
join my tg for updates + follow me on fomo 👀
t.me/stefsden // fomo.family/r/stefchefg
sizing into my next high conviction play $CARDS @Collector_Crypt
why am I crazy bullish?
1) $17m treasury of trading cards under the token(token is <10m mc lol)
2) $300m+ revenue/$24m in PROFITS last 12 months(token is <10m mc lol)
3) co founder & ceo @TuomHolmberg confirmed a chunk of the profits will go towards direct buybacks "pretty soon" in a podcast 3 weeks ago
4) also confirmed % of each pack sale on their platform will flow into systematic buybacks(theyre averaging $70m in volume monthly)
5) project similar to $HYPE, its generating revenue outside of crypto + been consistently growing revenue/profits despite broad crypto underperformance
buybacks announcement will officially place it under the same playbook that made $HYPE the biggest outperformer in the top 100 crypto coins
6) Tuom will continue to build CollectorCrypt around the $CARDS token + said his long term vision is to make $CARDS the first fully liquid & tokenized "trading cards/pokemon index" in the world so ppl can invest in this new exploding asset class without buying physical cards
7) really asymmetric r:r at 10m mc, survived -95% drawdown, bottomed af chart, showing some strength
8) team is committed for long term, not motivated by money/status or mass extraction, theyre passionate collectors themselves and they have decades of experience developing successful web2 startups which explains @Collector_Crypt impressive numbers
tldr: buy some and thank me later🪄

🚀Dear builders and auditors, your Claude Code sub just became a 100x audit team.
Up to 95 specialized AI security agents running in one orchestrated autonomous pipeline.
Fully open-source.
"Plamen" is live 🔥🐉
3 months ago, I joked that in 2026, auditors would earn $$$ from bugs AI agents miss.
The joke became the market. Junior-level mistakes get exploited every day.
AI is worthless without the human behind it.
There is a lot of $$$ to be made as a whitehat + AI.
Go grab them.🫡

The right moment to take Web3 security seriously - before AI agents fully take over?
Today.
We’re already seeing how tools like Claude and trained AI agents outperform junior researchers in contests, catching most of the basic issues automatically - while many newcomers still struggle with focus and speed.
Take this seriously. Work smart with AI, not against it. The AI-powered auditor is already here.
You already know the best space - what’s left is to commit, adapt, and execute.
