Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi says if frontier models stopped advancing, it wouldn't matter for most orgs because enterprise AI is bottlenecked on context, not intelligence: "There's no agentic work that's automated the whole enterprise. That has just not happened. Why is that? The real reason is the models are smart enough, but they just don't have the context that exists inside of any organization." "They have not been in every meeting. They don't know what's in everybody's heads. They don't know all the processes. There's always a couple of employees who know everything in every organization. You go tap on their shoulder, and everybody's like, 'Oh my God, what would happen if he or she quits?'" "If you just fused that and gave that context into the AI models, just the frontier today, I think there's so much productivity gains you could get for any organization on the planet." "For that, we actually don't need smarter models... If the frontier doesn't advance, it doesn't actually matter for the vast majority of organizations on the planet. They're just so far behind in the adoption curve of actually automating things and getting value out of this stuff." @alighodsi Read the latest Profiles of the Future by @bhorowitz and @mikemcg0 on Databricks & the Future of the Firm: a16z.news/p/databricks-and-t…

This paper answers why confident idiots run the world. Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy. It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.” they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception. And the results are wild. participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile. they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence. the paper revealed a brutal paradox: the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain. if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing. this creates a dangerous systemic loop. the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions. meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse. top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else. they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add. we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence. the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't. the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.

Michael Dell calls Elon Musk the "most demanding customer there is," and says Musk rewarded Dell with more business after the Colossus build DELL: “So it shouldn’t be too surprising that we’re also number one in AI infrastructure.” MIMS: “Dell did half of the servers in the Colossus One AI supercomputer for SpaceX. And you did it really fast, right? I think that was a record fast build. It was like six weeks or something.” DELL: “Elon is probably the most demanding customer. No, he’s definitely the most demanding customer there is.” MIMS: “Yeah? Was there a bonus involved? Get this done in six weeks and…” DELL: “I don’t know that there was a bonus involved, but they have rewarded us with additional business because we’ve done a great job. And that’s pretty much the pattern.”
Elon Musk explains how to build AI satellites on the moon from lunar silicon and aluminum, and says 500 to 1,000 terawatts a year cannot be launched from Earth “Well, the lunar soil is 20% silicon or something like that. So you can mine the silicon on the moon, refine it, and create the solar cells and the radiators on the moon. So get the radiators out of aluminum. So there’s plenty of silicon and aluminum on the moon to make the cells and the radiators. The chips you could send from Earth because they’re pretty light. But maybe at some point you make them on the moon, too." "Like I said, it does seem like a sort of a video game situation where it’s difficult but not impossible to get to the next level. I don’t see any way that you could do 500 to 1,000 terawatts per year launched from Earth.”

One answer to what's driving GPU rental prices: Token demand on OpenRouter is up ~27x since last November, from ~6T/week to ~165T/week Open-weight models now handle ~72% of those tokens, up from ~28% last November Charts of the Week: a16z.news/p/charts-of-the-we…
Zooming out, GPUs are still renting ahead of a standard 6-year depreciation schedule Rental price vs. schedule: - H200: +143% - B200: +111% - RTX PRO 6000: +73% - H100: +54% - A100: +9% Most of the gap opened up after April, when token demand took off Charts of the Week: a16z.news/p/charts-of-the-we…

Hello Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home? Come on now I hear you're feeling down Well, I can ease your pain Get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts? There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more ah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on, it's time to go There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone I have become comfortably numb

BREAKING: Marc Andreessen just drew the clearest map he's ever given of where the next trillions actually land. And it isn't the software app layer. His thesis: manufacturing jobs from the last 25 years are permanently gone. Stop chasing them back. The real asymmetric bets are embodied AI hardware (robots, drones, autonomous vehicles, defense) and AI attacking the three sectors where prices have only gone up for decades: housing, healthcare, education. The moat in those sectors isn't technology. It's regulation. Which means whoever breaks through first wins everything. He specifically calls out California's SB 1047 as the template for what nearly happened: a bill that would have imposed sweeping liability on AI developers and chilled the entire buildout. It failed. But the next version is coming. Founders still optimizing for software-layer apps are playing a smaller game than they think. The question isn't whether AI reshapes the physical world. It's whether American regulation hands that opportunity to someone else first. Where to place the bets for the next 18 months: theaiopportunities.com/p/mar…
