A shameful match, but it will make money for all concerned. In earlier eras, legends would retire and more would take their place. But today's "stars" need yesterday's legitimate stars to create an imprint. In the past, mass media created those imprints but today's environment is so fragmented and so expensive that people opt out and find other options. Therefore, today's fighters do not get the same opportunity to become globally known to casuals, thus the need for spectacles such as this. Is it any wonder @SmittyBoxing and I have transitioned from the news of the day to "Classic Clashes"? By the way, the next episode is just around the corner.

When @SmittyBoxing speaks of @SugarRayLeonard's left hook, he knows of where he speaks. The proof is in this clip from a past @BoxingHall of Fame Induction Weekend that will be part of the next episode of "Classic Clashes" that pits Leonard with Oscar de la Hoya.

These are the skill sets that @SmittyBoxing and I will use to break down this weekend's "Classic Clash" between gold medalists (and the golden boys of their eras) Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar de la Hoya. Who would win each category and why? For our choices, tune in this weekend here: youtube.com/@inthiscorner. See you then!

Hmmm....great news. And if this trend is indeed true, perhaps the young ones (and the older ones) can purchase my two books, "Tales From the Vault: A Celebration of 100 Boxing Closet Classics," and "Muhammad Ali: By the Numbers" that I co-wrote with @BobCanobbio. They're interesting, enjoyable, informative and they punch far above their weight (and they're heavy books in terms of poundage, especially the first one). Both are available on Amazon.

How would a "Classic Clash" between Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar de la Hoya turn out?

The next episode of "Classic Clashes" will feature a pair of Olympic gold medalists who were best known for their leading-man looks and their devastating hooks. @SmittyBoxing and I will break down their styles, recount their histories, explain how each man can win and pick our winners.
