London is genuinely very lucky that the GLC got the Thames Barrier built in the 1970s-80s because the city would constantly flood without it but also lol imagine trying to get it built now

Just spotted at the MA/MLA Landscape Architecture exhibition at @BartlettArchUCL: James Rebanks' @herdyshepherd1 books used in a project on Herdwick sheep. Loving the cover of the dissertation by Biying Wang.

Painting over art in children’s immigration centres. Capping “low value” degrees such as in arts and humanities. Twelve culture secretaries in 13 years. Rishi Sunak will no doubt be “totally, 100 per cent on it” in terms of the economic impacts of the creative economy, right?

In honor of Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, better known as Vangelis, who passed away at the age of 79. In terms of sci fi, we owe him the soundtracks of Blade Runner (1982) and Carl Sagan's Cosmos: A Personal Voyage (1980). RIP.

Climate activists are sometimes depicted as dangerous radicals. But the truly dangerous radicals are the countries that are increasing the production of fossil fuels. Investing in new fossil fuels infrastructure is moral and economic madness.

Great read from @SteveCannane on class and race and England cricket. These issues are relevant for Australia too. Diversity isn't just a moral pursuit, it's good for business and improves results. Cannane and interviewees explain this well in the piece abc.net.au/news/2022-01-20/i…

They call it the 'gentleman's game' but is private school boy privilege behind England's Ashes...

Research shows that a white and privately educated man is 34 times more likely to play professional cricket than a British Asian and state-educated man. Is this why they lost the Ashes?

Traditional British farming systems were full of trees If we are going to defend our ‘traditions’ I reckon we have to be big enough and smart enough to understand what they really were and how we’ve slipped away from them
