A Drone With Only One Motor!
And a 3D-printed propeller. And somehow, it still manages to fly.
The really interesting part is how you control it.
By accelerating and decelerating the motor more than 300 times per second, you can control the drone's thrust, pitch, and roll.
The propeller spins at almost 20,000 RPM, with its tips approaching half the speed of sound.
Getting this to work required custom firmware, a homemade high-speed imaging setup to study the blades, and hundreds of crashes.
I've been sharing Joshua Bird's videos for quite a while now. I just love the things he comes up with and how much effort he puts into making them work.
We're also going to talk about a few other projects he's currently working on. More on that soon!
And if you want to take a closer look at how he built this thing, he's made the code and CAD files open source.

BREAKING: 24 States Approve State Police Constitutional Amendment, Meeting Two-Thirds Threshold
Approved states so far (24): Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara
Scheduled for Plenary (1)
Kano
Committee Review (2)
Bauchi, Katsina
Received (6)
Abia, Borno, Ebonyi, Kogi, Ondo, Sokoto
No Public Update
Jigawa, Lagos, Niger
What Happens Next
1. Complete the Constitutional Amendment
With 24 State Houses of Assembly having approved, the resolutions are sent back to the National Assembly. Once confirmed, the amendment proceeds for presidential assent. This creates the constitutional basis for State Police Services alongside a Federal Police Service.
2. Finalise and Pass the National Policing Bill
The draft National Policing Bill (and related consequential amendments) is currently under review by the Ministry of Justice. After validation and presidential consideration, it will go to the National Assembly for passage. This law sets the national standards, certification process, oversight, funding, and operational rules.
3. States Pass Their Own Laws
Each state that wants to operate a State Police Service must enact its own state law establishing it.
4. State Certification
No State Police Service can begin operations until the state is certified as meeting the national minimum standards. The process is phased: the constitutional change enables it, but certification is required before any actual policing starts.
5. Operational Launch
Once certified, the State Police Service can commence. Federal coordination, inspections, accountability mechanisms, and possible federal intervention remain in place.

I won’t lie, the honorable minister is right here.
I used to be one of those who parrot that the FG takes too much, but the fact is that the FG takes less and has more responsibilities relative to what it is earning. I now see it differently after a proper analysis of the numbers (s/o to @andrewfootie).
The FAAC pool consists of two core revenue sources: statutory revenue and VAT.
Things like petroleum taxes, petroleum royalties, government petroleum earnings, company income taxes, capital gain taxes, stamp duty, custom duties, excise duties, custom levies, etc are all statutory revenue sources.
Statutory revenue sources account for roughly 70% of the FAAC pool.
Based on the statutory sources, the FG takes 52% while the states & LG take 48%.
Meanwhile, on VAT, the FG takes just 10%, while the states & LG take 90%.
So in effect, the FG takes 52% of statutory revenue, and 10% of VAT. When you run the numbers, the FG takes an effective 30% of the entire FAAC pool while the states & LGs take 70%.
In addition to that 70%, states enjoy 100% of personal income taxes. Therefore, if you factor the grand total of all revenue, the FG’s effective share is even smaller (maybe down to 25% thereabout).
This is an anomaly. It shouldn’t be. The responsibilities of the FG (especially in context of fiscal policy) means that they should be earning more.
For example, the share of the national govt in revenue pool:
• Nigeria: 30%
• South Africa: 49%
• U.S.A: 66%
• U.K.: 93%
So on this one, I very well agree with the honourable minister of finance. 💫👌🏻

After 5 years of building @AltSchoolAfrica with @AdewaleYusuf_ and @opeawo, today I’m officially stepping down as CTO and moving into the CEO role.
The goal is to provide global education to Africans at an affordable cost. Instead of going to the UK and spending £30,000 to get a degree, you can attend the same university through AltSchool for less than £15,000.
Same school, same lecturers, same BSc.
Equal value. Equal access. Local pricing.
I’m officially launching our degree programmes on degree.altschoolafrica.com, and over the next few months, you’ll see more global universities join the AltSchool network.
Welcome to the edX of Africa.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES SENATOR RABIU KWANKWASO AT 70
My warm congratulations to my friend Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State, one-time Minister of Defence and former Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, on his 70th birthday on October 21, 2026.
Senator Kwankwaso and I have had a longstanding association, dating back to our time in the National Assembly in 1992, he in the House of Representatives and I in the Senate, and later in 1999 when we both emerged as governors of our respective states.
As members of the Class of '99 Governors, we both played pivotal roles in laying the foundation for the democracy the nation enjoys today.
Shaped by different political choices, our political paths differed until we coalesced in 2013 to form the All Progressives Congress. Since then, history and service have kept us intertwined.
I must acknowledge Senator Kwankwaso's immense contributions to Kano State and Nigeria as a two-term Governor, former Minister of Defence, former Senator, former presidential candidate, and now a presidential running mate.
Senator Kwankwaso remains an influential figure and a progressive politician.
That we are in different political parties and competing on different platforms in the January 2027 election will not remove my affection for Senator Kwankwaso.
As the former governor marks this milestone, I wish him good health, personal fulfilment, and many more years of engagement in the nation's democratic process.
