Update to animal well-being check Renner, South Dakota – The Minnehaha County State’s Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for Sherry Lynn Napier, 63, and Faith Lily Smith, 38, following an animal welfare investigation that began on July 22, 2026, at a residence in Renner. During the initial welfare check, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society in evaluating the condition of animals on the property. The assessment determined that the environment was not suitable for the health or safety of the animals present. As a result, 81 small dogs and 20 chickens were removed from the property. Seven of the 20 chickens were deceased at the time of removal. Both Napier and Smith have been charged with: 4 counts of Felony Cruelty to Animals (Class 6 Felony) 97 counts of Animal Neglect (Class 1 Misdemeanor) Both were booked into the Minnehaha County Jail with initial $10,000 cash bonds.
